Define casual? Because the "casuals" here have been arguing consistently along the lines of what I've been saying. And up until they got tired of literally repeating everything, I saw some good rebuttals and uses of real facts.
The only thing Kobe is better than Jordan at regarding shooting is three-point shooting. Kobe is a superior three-point shooter, but it does not make him the better shooter overall.
Example: Jordan's playoffs/Finals stats at mid-range during his first three-peat:
'91 playoffs:
TOTAL:
In Paint: 102/171 (59.6 FG%)
Midrange: 84/178 (47.2 FG%)
'92 Finals:
Midrange: 38/79 (48.1 FG%)
'93 Finals:
Midrange: 55/108 (50.9 FG%)
Total from Mid-Range in playoffs/Finals from his first three-peat: 177/365 (48.5 FG%)
But Kobe was still a better shooter because you watched him a lot, right?
Another example (keep in mind that by the late-90s he shot more mid-range jumpers than he ever had):
According to NBA.com:
Jordan from mid-range and painted area (not including finishes at the rim) in '96-'97:
Paint: 51.53%
Mid-range: 48.92%
'97-'98:
Paint: 56.37%
Mid-range: 43.23%
Now how about Kobe from the same zones (starting with 2005-06 up until 2009-10):
'05-'06:
Paint: 56.49%
Mid-range: 42.42%
'06-'07:
Paint: 56.91%
Mid-range: 43.94%
'07-'08:
Paint: 60.00%
Mid-range: 38.79%
'08-'09:
Paint: 58.74%
Mid-range: 42.03%
'09-'10
Paint: 52.34%
Mid-range: 45.15%
All of Kobe's mid-range zones failed to surpass Jordan's '96-'97 mark. Only one beat his '97-'98 mark. Do you see this and where I'm going with this? There is no rebuttal for shooting charts. Us "casuals" came here with well supported opinions and you said what?
"EYE TEST OVER ALL." Only because you don't know what to say to Jordan legitimately shooting better than Kobe from the paint and mid-range?
There is nothing above to support that Kobe was a superior shooter outside of three-point shooting. Pretty much everything else belongs to Jordan.
In fairness to Kobe, his shooting from mid-range is above average in this era but still not better than Jordan's. Reference the charts above before you say something like I'm "casual" or "I need an ESPN breakdown" or "eye test>statistical evidence."
