Internet Forums are the only place where I see Swizz Beatz being classified as a mediocre producer

Swizz is far from poppy. Swizz at one point, was the go-to producer for a street anthem/single. He wasn't a producer people went to when they wanted a Top 40 hit. His street bangers just happened to become hits.
I don;t even like Swizz at all but this is definitely true. The majority of his shyt that was popular in the old days weren't trying to be pop songs.

Swizz's 98-00 run was just :scust: meaning :ohlawd:...idk what caused the perception to turn cause even I found myself being annoyed with him...not the beats so much cause the nikka got jams on top of jams..but its something about HIM..but yeah, i'd never heard anybody complain about his production back then until the internet and magazines would talk down on his "simple, keyboard beats" ...purists just mad he wasnt sampling and he took hip hop out of that era..thats how i see it

He had some classic joints 15 years ago.
He is one of the best salesmen of all times though, can't take that away from him.

Nah but really Swizz can drop ill shyt, but he can also drop a bunch of average shyt.
Dope producers usually have a few wack beats and a bunch of dope beats while Swizz is like 70% okey to wack, 30 % dope as fukk.

this here. I liked some of his shyt in the late 90's like RR anthem, but the majority of his shyt at the height of his popularity back then was on a dj mustard level of simplicity when it comes to beats. to be honest, I like the shyt he's dropped in the 2010's much better than his old shyt, which was mostly wack casio-sounding bullshyt.

yeah some RR stuff is kinda dated...not all of it..but some tracks just sound extra goofy to listen to now and unfortunately all of their producers had that similar style.

I'll challenge y'all on that. DMX shyt aged better than most late 90s shyt, we are the streets is still fire. Swizz was hated on by backpackers but the funny thing is if eastcoast producers had built on his sound that eastcoast shyt that backpackers love wouldn't have disappeared. Simple electronic beats is the sound of today.

yup, cuz for every "banned from tv" you get like 10 songs that sound like the :trash: he did on the lox's "we are the streets"

yup, songs he's done in recent years such as "fancy" by :heh: or "welcome to the jungle" & "murder to excellence" by :scusthov: and :yeshrug: were dope as fukk.
