You're taking home over 2k every two weeks. You're doing better than most.

He's taking home $4000/month? That doesn't make sense.

55k/12=4,583
4583/2=2,291

What about federal and state taxes?:dwillhuh: You said he was taking home over $2k bi-weekly.

more like $3400 and $1700

Not to mention 1/4 to 1/2 of that is going towards rent / mortgage alone.

It's really not about how much you make, but really what your expenses are, and what you do with your money.

Biweekly he'd be taking home 2291 approx. So each month he should be raking in approx 4582 unless he's on an uneven pay and he makes more at the start of the month than the end. Either way, he's still got 4k a month approx. I'm assuming he's not talking gross pay and taxes are deducted.

What are you talking about?:dwillhuh:

Net pay is after taxes, that's what you take home. At $55k salary he is not taking $4500/month home. More like $3300 after Federal and state tax

nikkas telling on themselves. :mjlol:

$55K is like $1600 every 2 weeks.

These nikkas ain't never in they life worked

All these words of encouragement are cool and everything, but really you should be making AT LEAST 70k a year, breh. And I mean that if you are single with no kids. A family man needs a 100k minimum. You don't really have anything to build wealth on at 55k. Federal taxes alone are eating up any "excess" you have. Then you have state tax in most states, and state without it usually have higher property tax. Those taxes are insults, really. In a lot of places, after rent/mortgage, all the insurances, car note(??), student loans and other debt, gas, you are really skruggling on "55k" (assuming that is the gross and not the net).

People are going to come behind me and call this trolling, but that is just complacency speaking. We are behind in this country and cannot be complacent. Did somebody leave you something, are you generationally wealthy and working purely for passion? If not, what the hell are you gonna do with 55k?

And NO. You are not a loser, but you have to do better, especially if you have the nerve to have a family eventually.

That’s easy to say for someone who lives in a large city but to expect someone from Jackson Mississippi to make that is a task

First and foremost I want to say if you make more than the median/average American you cannot be a failure that makes no sense. Now if you live in a high priced city you should hopefully be applying to affordable housing if you can’t find a cheaper place to move to that can give you close or similar to the salary you making.

This 100%.

Most people don't make that much $$$. If you live in a big city and have friends with good white collar/trade-blue collar jobs, it's easy to think everyone is banking.

Yea working in Manhattan all the time I thought like a woman and thought six figures was normal and that I was failure in the past.

When I drove to Kentucky I was humbled. Actually Atlanta should have humbled me to but I got distracted by the fake glitz and glamour of the city.

But driving through West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama will quickly give you a reality check
