Wish I knew about certs when I was 18, I would have focused on this instead of anything else.

So I’m in school now and work, I plan on studying for the network+ because I was recommended to go right to that instead of the A+.

I know about a little bit of tech and troubleshooting.

But right now I’m trying to think can I handle adding studying this to my current schedule.

This school shyt is taking time from me.

So I’m wondering how long would it take to prepare for the test with a kind of busy schedule?

Yeah I have an A+. I would just review and go through some A+ stuff for a few hours then go straight to Network+

Can you just create a free account and use?

Semi Update, I've found the Meyers course on Lynda A LOT more helpful than Messner, on ch 3 of the test prep,

Yeah Meyer has been rated better than Messer. But Meyers was not free once upon a time.

I went through every free resource possible when I was going for my A+. Chose which ever is best for you. Messer just goes through the objectives and gives a basic explanation of everything. I heard Meyer does more teaching.

Yea, I remember you saying it earlier, but the Visual Aid is SO helpful, Meyers actually shows the parts of computer & such, Only thing is but I guess for a newbie it would, some sections have a lot of info that is difficult to take all in but its been a better process

What u recommend to review? The videos or the book?

Go to this page. Go through the objectives one by one and one and see if you know those concepts. If so, skip the shyt. If you don't know something, search for the specific video of messers that explains it.

Book is even better. skim through the book and read on about things you don't know. or watch a video on it. whatever way is better for you to learn.

Go to what page? Was there supposed to be a link or something?

So just by chance went on Indeed.com searching for A+ cert jobs and it was pretty much nothing there in my area, so a bit disappointed reading that. Is this common?

A+ doesn’t always show up in job requirements. Look for the things that are learned in A+. Like
  • Understand how to locate and gather information on an issue and how to use resources to find solutions
    • Windows operating system knowledge (Desktop and Server)
    • Networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, IP)
    • Complete understanding of computer hardware and Windows operating systems.
    • Basic understanding of network communications (Firewalls, switches, DNS, DHCP, IP, etc.)
    • Basic understanding of Windows Server and features (Active Directory, Group Policy, etc.)

I regularly see jobs looking for technicians with A+.

A lot of those roles have high turnover and many local businesses are still using legacy hardware/software.

It isn't "useless" unless you are trying to climb the ranks of IT fairly early on.

Sounds like you're trying to get a foot in the door with little to no knowledge. So yeah, go for it, it's a great foundation to start from.

yea now that I have the Lynda course of Meyers stuff, I've been going through the chapters (at 4 now) and now I'm at the point I want to skim and find stuff I need to know, he has like 18 chapters w/ like 10-12 videos each in chapter.

I'm as beginner as it comes so idk if I'm in the position to "skip" things lol

Yeah I went through it all multiple times. Saw all the video. Read all the books. Took hella practice test. That’s how I learn though. Just hammer stuff til I don’t need to hammer it anymore. I knew a lot but did not know it in detail.

Man just have fun with it. You should be learning because you what to know the material and be the best you can be when you get a job.
