Tbh I’m going nowhere with the current career I’m in and see even at this entry level IT position, you can obtain a nice 15hr/+ position. On the Comptia site they have positions you can get with it like help desk & support. I want to get the cert, and get one of those positions and see/take it from there. My current job is pretty much no advancement so I want to be out of it and pass the exam by late October but having trouble keeping up with the messner videos
Is A+ cert pretty useless in 2019?

No. I’ve been hit up hella on LinkedIn about entry level IT jobs since I got my A+ certification. Mostly contract jobs but it’s what you need to do it to get experience and your foot in the door. I’m finishing up my bachelors in Computer Science paid for by my current employer. If not for that I would have jumped on one of those jobs. The experience is worth it.
I got my A+ because dudes online told me that’s a great starting point. But personally I would have just skimmed through some A+ stuff and went straight to Network +. COMPTIA Network + touches on basically everything you need to know from the A+ exam anyways.

Professor Messer is where it’s at to understand all the concepts you will be needing to know. BUT....
Practice test is what you’ll need to master to get the A+ cert. The information is easy...The questions on the exam are Hard in the way that you need to think like a IT professional and think through how you would handle different situations with the knowledge from the books and videos.

HELL YEAH YOU SHOULD. Just put what you initially went to college for. As long as you get certs and hopefully eventually get experience in a field. Doesn’t matter if you dropped out of college. As long as you can do the work. A college degree definitely makes it easier to get in an interview room but knowing your shyt is what will get you the job
And having the certs defines that you know your shyt because they can be difficult and they expose if you can use your knowledge in a work environment. Get the certs. Get a entry level job and show you can do it. While at the entry level job, study for your next cert for the higher up job you want.
You have to remember. IT is a forever changing field. You will have to stay up on your shyt to keep advancing.

any advice for a breh thats about to get his Network+ (about to cuz I dont fail tests) ? Like any skills or anything to learn to make me more valuable.. Python? Web development? AWS or Cloud??
Breh. Network+ has NOTHING to do with Python, or web development.
That’s why I switched my major to software development. I initially signed up for a bachelors in IT but changed my major to computer science because it’s more interesting to me and the future job market looks amazing.
If you want to do software development it’s a whole different route you will be going down. You need to go through a tutorial of the type of software development you want to get into. Just do some research on what applies to the job you want. Learning a coding language will make you very valuable but you have to know if you want to go the IT route or Software development route.

While its good to have certs, they don't always mean you know your shyt. There are many ways to pass a test if you look hard enough. Some of the best IT I've worked with had very few certs and I work with tons of people who claim to have all kinds of certs who I wouldn't let touch my PC. It just depends.
The bolded is so true and one of the reason why I went the opposite route that you went. To me that is the greatest part about IT. Knowing that tomorrow there will be something new to learn and try to master.

This is why I only ask people who come into these types of theads why they want to get into IT to try to help guide them down a good path so they don't waste time. You should probably put this in the sticky thread so we don't take this one off topic too much.

This is why I say have two sources of material to use. When I was studying for my A+ years ago Messer would put me to sleep. I used some of his videos but mostly the OCG to pass the test.

OCG = Official Cert Guide. I used the older version of this one, CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Tenth Edition (Exams 220-1001 & 220-1002), to pass mine.
breh I was rocking with his videos until he got to all the network ports/devices and it kinda confusing me because there are so much information on his slideshow, and he has a very dull/monotone voice. I actually haven't watching the past two days because I hit a standstill and want to find another method of studying/learning
