Ha, I know that feel. I just started doing them and thought my form/technique was pretty good in the 135-165 range, failed horribly at 185. My elbows are all over the place from the jump to the catch.
Nobody in my gym does them except for a few crossfit dudes with potato form.

Vardanyan gotta be the GOAT. Won the gold medal at 1980 olympics, but his lifts would have earned him the gold in the two weight classes above his, and bronze in the next. Crazy. Here's a vid of his personal record set that nobody since has been anywhere near.
