That's why I said Baltimore to a lesser extent.

Also, no, Chicago and DC accents do not sound similar. DC emphasizes the R in words. Chicago does not.

That's ironic Because the R is where I noticed the similarities. They both say Cah=car

You gotta stop lumping Baltimore and DC as a single entity. DC's culture is very different from Baltimore. Baltimore, along with Philly, are true Mid Atlantic regions IMO, even tho they are very different as well. NYC and DC would be the bookends of Mid Atlantic since both of their cultures mesh into of regions like New England, and what can be completely regarded as the south.

Baltimore and DC are together when discussing CSA

Chicago definitely does not stress the r. Ask somebody from Chicago to say Maryland and carry. Then turn around ask somebody from DC to say the same two words. No similarities. And I don't hear similarities between the two when saying the word car.

Naw, you're good, I don't feel a way about it. I'm just poking the topic from different angles. I think Baltimore doesn't carry itself like a big city, but more like very large small town. I think it is country in that respect.
Baltimore is the only "big populated" city in the northeast with an outdated transit system. And what I mean is they don't have a big subway system like DC, Philly, NYC, or Boston. That new BmoreLink bs is horrible. It's most that big but it's definitely one of them cities where your ass better have a ca.

Which is silly as hell since the CSA itself is a loose definition even by the people who created it. For example, Raleigh and Durham city borders touch, and meet MSA requirements, were already a single MSA, then changed to a CSA. Next, Philly and NYC meet the requirements of a CSA, NYC CSA has actually taken Mercer county from Philly's MSA, yet they aren't considered a CSA.

Even Richmond has a bit of northern feel, if you look at the older neighborhoods with homes really close together. Always expect to see rowhouses when I'm there.

The whole Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area is interesting to me too. I feel like it could have been a southern version of New York if all the cities had merged like the buroughs of NYC did. It has water on all sides too. Under slightly different circumstances it would be talked about much differently.

Yep I'm from the area and there's too much beefing between the cities political heads for them to come together. Norfolk got a train a couple of years ago and wanted to extend it to Va Beach but them old conservatives in Va Beach wasn't having it.

Don't remind me.

When the government was throwing money at these cities to build a Subway system, Baltimore figured that they didn't need it since they had buses and street cars. When Baltimore finally realized it needed it, the money wasn't there anymore and Baltimore was on its own. Boston, NYC and Philly were smart, DC has the Feds backing them (which means the whole country paid for DCs metro) and Baltimore waited too long. Notice that Baltimore has the newest subway of all the cities, and the Baltimore subway cars and stops are identical to Miami's. Both were built in the early 80s, and have the exact same cars.
