I know people without degrees that have positions in companies that require one. moving up in companies is still a possibility if you play the game right................. oh and then theres nepotism :skip:

I dropped out of school to get a job like that. Was supposed to have a degree and I was no where close to one. The lady who hired me was the widow of this dude my pops helped out back in the day. nikka literally went from barely going to class and smoking weed and shooting dice in the breezeway one week to wearing a shirt and tie the next. A whole bunch of that shyt is who you know. It's just us Black folks who are tricked into thinking it's 100% hard work.

College ain't dead, nor will it ever die. But nikkas who are looking at going to school got to look themselves in the mirror and keep it a buck with themselves. If you trying to put the work in and do the STEM route then you gucci. But If you going to take some gravy major you might as well start doing your own thing or go to trade school. It's not as fun or glamorous, but you looking at the same type of money without the debt. I'm been out here 10 plus years making real money along with all the shyt the comes with it - falling off, grinding back...etc. While people I know who stayed in school really just getting out here in the last 3-4 years.

Like I said that shyt doesn't apply to nikkas who in STEM, or who families got connections. This is to my brehs who going to them middle of the road HBCUs or a some small gravy state school. nikkas really got to sit down and realistically think about they future

I just saw that thread about historical black colleges falling off, it made me realize i'm not the only one who noticed something but i think the concept of everybody going to college is starting to die, for all colleges

i've been going to a university computers a couple times a week for maybe 3 years or so and for 2 years before that went to school.

i swear this year it seems like half the people are there. maybe people are realizing it's not what it's advertised as

HBCU's are struggling because people are going to pwi's instead. It has nothing to do with all college's dying off. Colleges are doing just fine. They will never die off because a college BA/BSdegree is becoming the standard/bare min. requirement.

People flooded colleges after the manufacturing jobs left. That created the market for bulshyt degrees and institutions. You can get a BA from a cracker jack box now. value is tied to scarcity so you need a masters to compete. But the white collar jobs outside of stem are drying up too.
(And thats next). There really is no point unless you study stem or go to a top 25 school.
Yes there is a point. College BA/BS degrees are becoming the bare min. requirement for lots of jobs instead of a hs diploma.

A high school diploma with 4 years of relevant work exp looks a lot better to these Hiring managers than diploma plus college degree these days :mjcry: shyt or at least it feel like it
I don't think so. Some people can't even apply for certain positions because a degree is required. People would like a degree plus internships/work experience. Internships are a requirement at most universities.
I graduated college with no loans

How?

More kids need to start picking up books about how to code for languages like Java or Python.

They can make an app by the time they're 20, and earn money and profit. And getting money like that allows them to network themselves very easy.

It's better to do that than to fukking drop 50,000 grand. I mean damn, unless you have very high grades and get a bunch of degrees, you're going to be throwing away a ton of money.

Unless you're really good at sports.

:mjlol:Breh I got accepted to Mo. B and Fort Valley State with a GED and a high ACT score. I was a total fukk off in HS. Didn't even go past the 11th grade. Was running in the streets and ended up in boot camp for 7 months. If they let nikkas like me in you already know they might as well be open enrollment.

College will eventually have to get cheaper or become more exclusive to certain segments of society if it's price continues to rise. Something has to give regarding the staggering student loan debt. Once that happens we will get a clearer understanding of where higher education is headed.

UConn has the biggest incoming Freshmen class ever. shyt ain't dying but goddamn some of these degrees people seeking what's the point.
young impressionable minds thinking just going to college in the first place guarantees them a leg up in life. In a way it does but in a way it doesn't. The less useful your degree is the more you will have to compromise when it comes to the job you have to take. That's some advice you know guidance counselors aren't telling these kids. Some of them will be fine...not so much because they are in college but because they are innovative and know how to hustle. Some of them are in for a rude ass awakening however.

Some of them need to be in trades. A good 65% of high school grads going to college need to be in trades truthfully. Not because they are dumb(hell trades require technique and skill; ya''ll ever had to do some plumbing? Had to install a water heater?) but because they degree they are seeking won't be worth the debt they will incur. It seems like common sense as an adult and a no brainer but how many starry eyed college students are thinking in this manner? And parents just want something to brag about in many cases.

Going to school for bullshyt you can study for free and won't get a job for is dying. People are smartening up.

Going to college for STEM, medicine and other things that are in high demand is definitely still a smart move though.

Colleges are important, yes. Going to college and getting degrees expand your opportunities and can get you higher wages than someone without education outside of high school.

But I think this generation is starting to realize having a degree isn't really necessary nor does it guarantee anything. Also the fact tuition costs are higher and a lot of people don't want to push themself into depth.
