Is endurance really important in football?

In american-football it's more about muscle endurance than cardiovascular endurance even tho both are involved. But it's still endurance thus yeah you need it.

But needless to say most american-football players wouldn't last half a regular football (soccer) game. They are simply not used to the constant activity. American-football players are used to short burst at full speed and then stop. and when I say stop you completely STOP. No such thing in football (soccer). You're at full speed 3/4 of the time and the time that you are not you're at least at jogging speed. And no substitutions in every other play like american-football either.

First time i watched an american football game i was wondering why they were always substituting players.Plus when offense vs defense are on the field its a completely different set of players so your offense or defense which was already getting a break to breath at the end of every play can now REST on the bench. And these are the "skilled" players I'm referring to like QBs, WRs, DB's and stuff. OLs and DLs and even LBs wouldn't last 5 minutes on a soccer field. Their cardio simply isn't built for it

Basketball and football (soccer) players dont get as many breaks as american-football but the bodies take the pounding that american-football inflicts.

Soccer players and basketball players wouldn't last half a regular football game either, or even a quarter for that matter. It's a different level of training required.

Yes. Go outside and run 40 to 200 meters 10 times back to back at full sprint with only 5 to 10 Second rest between.

In fact endurance for football takes specific styles of conditioning because you have to maintain POWER for almost two hours... Go to the gym and do the same lifts for two hours...

Muscle endurance.

Football players don't need "marathon" cardio... They need boxer cardio. They need to be able to maintain power and speed just as much as they need to to Perform aerobic activity efficiently.

Broke it down very well..

Football players must maintain power and speed over time... That is in itself a form of endurance.

Sure, completely ignore the rest of my point to get yours across and still be way off, breh :mjlol:
And no when it comes to Cardiovascular most of your most fit football players (WRs, DBs, RBs and QBs) wouldn't last. Let's not even talk about OLs, TEs, DLs, and LBs
This is where I disagree. I've worked out with plenty of football players at all levels. A lot of WR's, DBs, RBs that I came across were walking up in the morning and running 5-7 miles on the treadmill. These were guys preparing for the draft. I'm sure NFL pros aren't too shabby with the long distance aerobic activity.

You've got to be kidding me? :dahell:
I've played both, both require different kinds of conditioning. You can be in basketball shape and not in football shape, and vice versa. Ex: there are basketball players who have the skillset to play football but could not go out tomorrow and compete in a game. There are football players who could not go out tomorrow and compete in a football game.

If we're talking purely on a fitness plane - there's plenty of basketball and soccer (especially soccer) players that would last an entire football game. You've got dudes that are doing this - albeit at the high end of the spectrum -

“During 90 minutes Alves covered almost 9km, of which 1.2km were high intensity—either a sprint or a high-speed run. Alves embarked on 48 sprints, which is around one every two minutes, with a top-speed of 29.25kmh.”

Playing a skill position would be a walk in the park. :heh:

This thread is jokes :russ:

If you've never trained for football then you can't understand why it's the physically taxing training out of all sports.

I would love to see a soccer player train with Jamal Lewis after his 2000 yard season. They wouldn't last.

Endurance for football means pushing every part of your body to the limit and conditioning yourself to perform at a high level while at your physical limit.

200 meters x 10 at full sprint with 5-10 seconds rest between each run. No player in the NFL is capable of doing that.

What are you measuring this on?
