Nah. Quincy Jones propelled mj career into a new trajectory with new sounds and writing. While hit-boy and nas have great chemistry they aren't breaking any ground and nas's peak is far removed.
Basically this. Also MJ and Quincy’s work is their peak whereas no one would say that’s the case here. I fukk with all the KD/Magic albums but nothing on them is better than Nas’ album cuts with Premier from Illmatic to Stillmatic.

I look at Nas more as the Quincy Jones of the duo. Nas for the following reasons:

1) Nas is the seasoned veteran

2) His catalog was already stacked before meeting Hit Boy

Hit Boy did for Nas what MJ did for Quincy: give him that late career run that really propelled Quincy into another stratosphere. On paper, Quincy and MJ wasn't supposed to work and the collaboration was questioned, but the results and the execution was phenomenal.

Quincy in turn helped develop MJ into a legitimate solo superstar of the highest level. Nas has helped Hit Boy to become an elite producer because he helped four of the best projects from the GOAT.

This. Well said.

Michael was already SIX solo albums and 15 years deep into his professional career when he linked with Quincy. There was absolutely nothing “early” about MJ’s career when he and Quincy started working. Mike was a vet

Yes he was already a vet because he had been in the game for so long but I should have said early in his solo career, your sixth studio album is still early enough in a career that span 40 years, when MJ met Quincy and did off the wall he was only 21.

The equivalent would Nas meeting and doing the Album with Hit Boy 15 -20 years ago, before MJ did Off the wall he was not yet seen as the GOAT, Nas was long before Hitboy ever gave him any production, it’s two different points in their respective careers and Quincy influence on Mike career is more substantial, we were on here posting about Nas being GOAT 10 years ago when Hitboy was still working on nikkas in Paris and that was already conventional opinion.

MJ been in the game as a child star since he was 5 years old, so that's a moot point lol

Everybody was mad supportive and happy for me. They’d seen me grinding for two years prior and I put half the damn store in my first two projects as cast & crew so everybody knew what time it was

It’s not because Off the wall was his true breakthrough album critically and commercially, Got to be there went Gold(imagine MJ going Gold) Ben did a bit better but again no where on the level we know Mj to be and Music and Me was certified Silver and had a peak position of 92 on the billboard 200.

Forever Michael has peak position of 101 it had some criticism acclaim but he hadnt truly struck hot yet and was complaining about his lack of influence and involvement in the composition of his own songs to his Father, they were still very much treating him like a child star and I would say he drew more acclaim for his work with his brothers in Jackson 5 than as a solo artist
until... Off the wall.

This is where the tides turn and he truly sets the wheels in motion to become the biggest music star we have ever seen.
