I guess HOAd left a sour taste in my mouth. I bought my first house not thinking much about the HOA attached to it. I was active duty military at the time and it wasnt so bad at first. I paid my $300 for the year and that was it. Then i had to tdy for 3 weeks. My grass got a little long but not stupid high. I came back to 2 letters in my mail box. The first one was a warning, and the second one was a fine. After that i parked my jeep in my yard for a few nights....another letter, then i got a letter about a little mold (the green shyt that get on the side of your house) when i already had my homeboy scheduled to comeout to pressure wash it. My final straw was when i got a letter about having a party and being too loud when i aint even have anyone over. They stated that i was getting too many violations and they could put a lien on the house or some shyt. Thats when i stopped paying them. I said fukk all that and sold the house to my coworker. They tried to take me to court and i told em i sold the house and go eat a dikk.

That shyt aint freedom. Its kinda like buying getting a loan for a car vs leasing a car. When you get a loan or buy a car outright, you can do what the fukk you want to it mostly as long as its street legal and safe. Leasing you have all these rules n shyt and no freedom.

I get it. What you shared is one of the cons of HOA managed homeownership. Some management companies do the most with the violations. I have stated in one of my posts that should I buy another home, I probably would not go HOA.

But, on the flip side, my mom has neighbors who leave/left trash & furniture outside their house, neighbors who don’t maintain their lawns, have multiple family members and hoard the parking spaces, have loud parties, etc.

HOAs serve its purpose for those who don’t mind them. It isn’t for everyone.

y’all really be upset at what color someone chooses to paint THEIR house?! :dahell:

If you live next door to an ugly house, it will make it that much harder for you to sell your own house. If you list it at 300k, but it sits on the market for 6 months because nobody trying to live next to an ugly ass house, you're gonna have to drop the price. Then you gonna get low balled.

What I DON'T agree with is property management firms that own apartment complexes passing along those fees to renters.

In Charlotte, the complex where I live now, charge a "base" rent amount. Then they charge associate fees, along with shyt you didn't even ask for. I pay $90 a month for cable/internet whether I want it or not. Then stupid shyt like "valet trash pickup". And if they fix a storm drain or some random shyt, they pass it along to the tenants.

HOAs are the absolute fukking worst, and counter to anything you might consider "american". It aint no way you finna tell me what I can and cannot do with the shyt I bought. I could give a fukk what my neighbor paints his or her shyt, its theirs and they earned the right to do it. Got a lot of them HOA members with no power over anything else that set trip off the dumbest most inconsequential shyt in the world because its empowering. Cities support them because then they aint gotta pay for shyt like road and park maintenance and all that.

When I was overseas there was an article in the stars and stripes about how a deployed cat got his house taken away because he forgot to tell his old lady to pay the HOA fees. Imagine getting your home took for neglecting to pay a group a people to tell you how low you need to keep your grass cut!!

For those of you with condos. How much do your HOA fees go up each year?

PMI imo is the biggest scam.

Paying a bank extra money just in case u cant pay?
I'm not a homeowner but I've been doing my research. And it seems if you don't have 20% there's no way to avoid PMI. Even for loans that says they don't have PMI, other fees are higher than normal.

it's a MASSIVE scam and I'm glad that my city doesn't have them on single family homes.

they mostly exist in new housing developments and suburbs.

It’s not a scam. HOAs make sure the community is well maintained and home values don’t drop due to residents and homeowners bad management of their own homes. They are also responsible to make sure the amenities are well maintained. They are well worth it but some can be overpriced to be honest.

Imagine having your value decrease because some renters keep the homes messy or people can vandalize the community as they wish, or the homes look dirty but the owners refuse to paint or pressure wash them ?

My HOA is like, $600 a year. It’s well worth it for the maintenance of neighborhood amenities + making sure bozos keep the appearance of their crib to a certain standard
