did it catch on because the people demanded it or because the powers that be pushed it to death?

Breh...

I don't know WTF the powers that be did, cause I never saw this shyt on MTVJams or BET, and radio was late as shyt.

That shyt started spreading and people just took to it.

Let's not act like this nikka got some 1997 Mase type promo rollout for this record. That definitely didn't happen for this nikka. Matter fact, soon as he did get a promotional push and nikkas even knew he was signed, he failed to make another hit.

Song spread because people liked it, had nothing to do with the powers. It worked IN SPITE of the powers, in fact.

Shmurda got his deal after the song achieved mass appeal, starting with vines of people going crazy to "just caught a body" and the following "get to tweaking".

The song bubbled on its own, as trash as it is.

Fukk it, I know this the coli but imma just say it.

How the hell your avg young nikka gonna be able to tell an old nikka :flabbynsick: about what makes a classic?

Ain't HINDsight much clearer than FOREsight?!

A lot of ya'll young-uns really do not know how big these "classics" were, and were not able to see what did and didn't become a "classic".

i bet you there are bunch of muthafukkas who came up in the 00's that could recite every word to chingy's "holidae inn".

it was a hit, but it wasn't a CLASSIC hit.

and how do we know? because it's audience did not grow over time. the only people feelin that track today in 2014 are the same people who were feelin it in 2003.

the song did not endure the times. future generations are not going to cling to chingy because they heard "holidae inn" on the radio. in fact they might even go their entire lives without ever hearing that track on the radio, period.

meanwhile i bet there are kids who weren't even BORN when "gin n juice" was released but still know it.

whoever is feelin "hot nikka" NOW... those are the only ppl who are EVER gonna be feelin that shyt.

Yes. I seen people of all races lose their mind and go ape sh*t as soon as they hear the "Jungle Beats" drop at every party I been to this year. I even seen some old cac in a drop top corvette smoking a cigar blasting this giving no fuccs :russ:
Sure it's not a lyrical masterpiece but having that much of a reach on the people make it a classic.

So you gonna take some shyt that was never the hottest record out in the first place and try to equate it to a song that WAS?

Don't do the goal post thing, man... you better than that.

you know what maybe I'm out of touch. I'm goin on 30 now. I don't go to clubs as much as I used to. on top of that I'll be even more blunt, I don't really fukk with much new rap at all.

I first heard hot nikka in hot97 and I was not aware that it was already a "hot" record. this was about maybe 4-5 months ago. thought it was trash and didn't bother listening to it ever again. only time I hear it now is when I'm just flickin radio stations in the car for fun and I catch it in the middle.

I guess I wasn't aware it was the "hottest joint in the streets" like that. I guess i just assumed it was like a laffy taffy or some shyt.

but hey perhaps you are right. however I will say that if hot nikka DOES indeed constitute as a classic hip hop record, and CONTINUES to be a classic hip hop record...then boy has the bar been lowered.

Juvie "Back dat ass up" is a classic

Hot nikka will be a classic in the same vein when it comes to NY

nikkaz who are like 18 now..20 years from now will play Hot nikka on some "OOOO sht this takes me back...this sht classic..remember how we used to turn up to this"

:stop::stop:

no way no how.

and i think this is gonna be a classic, but comparing this to "back that thang up" is crazy talk. that track right there is in a whole nother dimension. im talking BBD Poison terrtory.

Somehow hard in
the paint isnt a legit hiphop record but "it takes 2" and "i'm bad" are classic

horrible comparison.
