You can work at at&t, verizon, sell insurance and any position in the bank and have 0 college experience.

Some may want customer service/sales experience though.

i was always thinking of doing IT.. how was tech school a big mistake? im planning on taking IT cert programs..

They are overpriced... All IT certs can be earned without any schooling. Just buy a book ,the equipment and build on experience. I'd recommend a degree( even an Associate ) over any tech school. No matter the college.

In 2013 is the highlight of this thread

because all of these jobs are making it a requirement to have a degree for jobs that didn't require one 10-20 years ago.

Basically the key word is entry level. You take the low pay, and get experience. You have to kick ass in the job you are working at to move up, and have a load of patience.

I see a lot of people saying "networking is key" but never delve into any other details :what:

Networking is the most important apart of any job-hunt, but it compliments a degree.

In 2013, outside of becoming wildly successful off a start-up or hitting it big in the creative industries, a bachelor degree is the bare essential for any average paying job and above.

Most people who :eat: w/o a degree have seniority and a lot of experience. A degree is useless to them at this point

bunch of cousins in my fam making over 100k in it with no college degrees

In before "my girlfriend's father's 4th cousin dropped out of college & makes 450k a year" post

Too late
:usure: you dont need any school experience for accounting.

Bruh, you not about to be an accountant in corporate America without a degree unless you got some strong as connects( like the CEO nephew or some shyt)

Even with the degree there is a glass ceiling if you don't go on to be one a CPA
And only like 20% of accountants are CPAs

The key to this lifestyle was manufacturing jobs

Technology ruined all of that though

I guess it depends. I've been at Comcast for going on 7 years. I bought my first home off of this job, cleaned up my credit, etc. honestly, I'm a service tech. I make 24.57 an hour, but that's because of the UNION we have. We get treated different from NON UNION shops. Cats who work in NON UNION shops, have their raises driven off of their numbers. 5% yearly possible. Some of them niccas is makin 39 an hour in Livermore, California. We get 401 k match at 4.5%, 4 bonuses a year, stock, etc. 401k was at 6%, but things change. I came home from the military, was in school to finish my degree and comcast was hiring 500 people in the summer of 2006, I got on. I want to do something else too, something I love doing and do well, also I, compensated WELL for doing it. I think that comes in the form of entrepreneurship. I'm doing just as well, if not BETTER than most cats with more education than me. And being a tech at comcast is stable, u less you work in corporate, customer service or do some dumb stuff.

Do y'all coli posters realize thus rarely works?
If I had a dollar for everyone that told me I should start my own business or something along those lines, I'd be rich.

One of the key things I took away from my undergrad years in business school was that not everyone should even CONSIDER starting a busines. People think starting a business is like copping shyt for the low and then reselling it for more and then profit.

If people really really knew the intricacies involved in starting a business let alone maintaining one, they'd never say that shyt.

They say most businesses fail within the first year. I think they need to hit cats with a dose of reality and let em know that most businesses fail in the first 3 months, it's just that it takes a good year for you to step back and realize, holy shyt what have I done!
