Was in Kendall a few months ago, people will talk to you in Spanish assuming your a black Cuban person and when you respond back in English they kinda give you a :mjpls:look.
Same has happened to me and they assume I'm dominican until I open my mouth :russ:

How's it racist to state for the benefit of overall societal function, you need to be capable to read/write/speak in X? Its the basis for an official language as people can retain their cultural tongues but find commonality. i.e Kenya has 42 tribes but they're all competent in at least English or Swahili, if not both.
This is Extremely, extremely false. Like you would only think this if you stayed in the capital. In my travels I encountered hundreds of people with an elementary school level of Swahili and a first grade level of English thriving.

When i took trips there and left the hubs of Mombasa and Nairobi there were millions of people whose only language is their ethnic one. For example, on that border area with Uganda and the lake there are many people who look at you crazy for trying to speak Swahili or English because luo is the lingua Franca. Everybody in official capacity from banks to govt offices is speaking luo. when you turned on the radio most of the channels were in luo too

The most beautiful non coastal part of Kenya when I last visited was kissi which is composed of many hills and mountains filled with tea and the norm is the kisii language outside their main town.

One of my biggest regrets was not visiting the volcanic and desert areas to the north because it's very scenic. Do you know what language they speak there? Somali or turkana. Whole school systems exist and are taught in Somali because a big chunk of that area used to be part of Somalia for centuries, very similar to New Mexico or Cali being part of Mexico before colonial fckery combined them.

Because of the extreme diversity of their country and the British colonialists arbitrarily grouping different ethnicities in the same country, Kenya is a diverse nation where the official languages can often be useless outside the 3 major cities.

But if you don't care about that, then you should push for Trump to make English the country's official language and we can revisit this :hubie:
Trump signed an executive order in March declaring English as the official language of the US.

Of course they should.

I live in an area with a lot of immigrants and a lot do speak English anyway. But I go to some medical appointments and see kids going with their elders and speaking for them as they cannot speak English.

the prime minister of England posted this and the responses have been mostly angry ones. Lots of claims of racism, fascism, etc but I dont see it that way. If you move to another country and you dont know the language you should learn the language. If i moved to France I would try my best to learn French :yeshrug:

He's pandering to racists, who don't really care whether or not immigrants speak the leanguage, they don't want to see any brown people. That's why he gets criticized. Starmer is a moronic centrist, who, like all moronic centrists, refuses to understand that this strategy of adopting far right positions and narratives doesn't work and only plays into the hands of the right.

i'm moving to Japan soon so I've been learning Japanese on the daily. It s the smart thing to do.
You got your work cut out for you. The more that I learn about Japanese, the more I'm like, "nígga, why:why:?!"

Shít be feeling like they added nuance and wrinkles to the grammar just for funsies:dead:.

Níggas have a formal language, casual, super casual, rude casual, then a business casual... and THEN the Japanese use a ton of slang because even they know that their language is too damn wordy:dead:

No. How are you going to communicate with the rest of the local populace? This is what people complain Americans do in other countries. So why is it ok when other people are asked to do it?

Americans are the most entitled people on Earth for real.

Anywhere else you visit in the world you are respected and accommodated for not knowing the language. Obviously you're mobility in that society will be limited if you choose to live there and don't speak the language, but you are still treated humanely, with no discrimination, and everyone does their best to help you. And that's assuming everyone doesn't also speak English to simply cater to our asses straight. America and I suppose now post-Brexit England is the only place on Earth where speaking and knowing only one language, while advocating discrimination against those who don't speak it fluently, makes any sense. The rest of the developed world embraces a global, humane society free of unneeded political tension.

We hate how delusional cacs are with their sense of entitlement everywhere they go, but then when it can apply to us suddenly it makes total sense to make one persons culture a standard on others, to which everyone else is to be treated less-than. It's crazy. Nationalism is the death of any society.

He’s talking about raising the requirement to make it look like he’s being hard on immigration
