a) rap is very regional. You're brought up to dikkride the music coming out your own region and put it on a pedestal above others, even if it's trash

b) NY has been arrogant about the :trash: they make while shytting on other coasts, which creates resentment

c) insecurity is a motha. The other coasts know the deal when it comes to the East but many still feel a type of way

But other coast especially the south got more trash then the east

Goat producer is between the teacher or the student. With large professor bein da teacher and primo the student who at 1 point surpassed the teacher. The amt of other producers who large p inspired or taught directly is krazy.

If u would take out large p and primo and all the songs they produced, or influenced or producers they taught or helped u wld be missing a large part of hip hop history. And many wld say some of the best parts.

If u remove a Timbaland or Pharrell yea u lose some but not as much or impact full to hip hop culture or history as primo and p.

Just ma . 02 cents

 @ Kanye pushing Hip Hop's musical advancement .
Like Quik and Dre don't completely fukking shut that argument down
just by looking at their music from the decade prior to ye ever getting hot.

ppl who dont really know shyt about hiphop tend to big up kanye the most ... that doesnt mean theyre wrong but thats where alot of the hate comes from ...plus his insane ranting and bytchmade tendencies dont help
I'm not calling him the GOAT producer but it's silly imo to say he's not in contention.
But if it's not dropout then it's white people music and trash according to people here.

In their defense a lot of people have this world view that "Sophisticated music = Rock Music"
so if you draw from rock records and mix it with Hip Hop and critics applaud you for it then
generally it turns people off and it might cause people to resent you even if the music itself
is fantastic.

And usually that applause comes with a dismissal of just how much musicality is in Hip Hop
music which causes the resentment and turns them off of a potentially great artist.

I can't count how many times I've seen people insinuate that Kanye West is the
only Hip hop artist that's musically interesting or is the only one making "music".
Hell I've seen it on THIS VERY BOARD.

With that said I think people generally do not view MBDTF, 808's & Heartbreak or
Graduation as "White People Music". If anything I think that sentiment really showed
up with Yeezus, not those records.

I agree that Ye has some pretty bad fans but I'm not going to react to the pitchfork esque people with hate for good projects.
I mean Kanye has a great skill range.
808's is outstanding beat wise.

It's not that posters here aren't giving credit to Kanye. When looking at who he's being compared to, Kanye doesn't measure up. We're talking about producers who have influenced and impacted three decades of Hip Hop. When we're looking at Dre, we're looking at someone who has produced albums that are more legendary than anything Kanye has done. Dre has introduced Hip Hop to some superstars with his production. We're talking about artists who were either underground or virtually unknown before Dre. Not only that, but just look at the blueprint that Dre and Yella created off NWA alone.

In regard to Premo, he's lived up to his name. He's produced key records on some of the best rappers' debuts (premiers). Not only that, but Gangstarr is a legendary duo. Then you have his work with Jeru and Group Home.

That's not to say that Kanye hasn't put in work. He is a Top 10 contender, but when you compare him to producers who have put in the amount of work that Dre, RZA, Premier, and some others have done, he doesn't make the cut in a Top 3-5.

It's Ye's pancake drums and over-produced melodies that don't work for people who actually listen to hip hop.

Just on that alone, Ye aint even top 20.

I don't care about the Outback steak demographic that thinks Golddigger or 808s is superb hip hop.

I'm talking about people who will be listening to hip hop long after it's unpopular for pops:
