Can I ask a question in all sincerity? Not being sarcastic...why is the bolded a knock against him? An important aspect of being an artist and an emcee is picking dope production. Jay-Z used to get props for picking good beats, and Nas always got criticized for not picking good beats.

All of a sudden it's a knock against Freddie that he picks good beats? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I guess what you might be saying is that he wouldn't be considered as dope without good beats, but many people listen to the full product and don't try and separate out every aspect like they're stems, or examine his skills on a chart like it's a math test. He makes dope ass music. Period. And most people can't rap as good as Freddie. It just is what it is. He clearly has the ability to tell stories and do concepts and what not, he just mostly chooses not to these days.

It’s not a knock. But it matters. It’s props to him sure

He also shouldn’t be in any conversation with Nas or Jay. Not in bars not in subject material nothing IMO just my 2 cents

If you really listen, his bars are crazy. I was actually surprised how nice he is cuz the low energy was throwing me off. I do wish he tried to be a little more animated at times, but he does have some dope songs and albums.
