Niether Lamar nor Baker should be anywhere near this thread

Lamar has weaknesses (namely the checkdown/short passing game) but the way he's talked about by media/fans you'd be led to believe he can't even throw the football. Because he doesn't pass for a lot of yards they think he's a bad passer. Passing yards has a stranglehold on people. It means absolutely nothing if it doesn't lead to points and wins. Efficiency>volume, and Lamar has been one of the most efficient passers in the league (particularly in the red zone)

As for Baker, he gets destroyed nationally and on this board. Just cause he's in a lot of commercials doesn't mean people overrate him (I'd argue those commercials bring an added source of scrutiny). Also while he's not in the upper echelon he's nowhere near a bottom tier QB either. He showed his potential as a rookie and really started coming into his own the second half of last year. I can see him shedding that game-manager label soon if he continues to trend upward
In two games, Baker has completed 81% of his passes with close to 11 yards an attempt. Those are beyond elite numbers.

Now he's without his top 2 WRs. Which other QB has had to deal with that it wouldn't effect his stats??

This is somewhat misleading.

Baker Mayfield (through 2 games) is averaging 10.9 yards gained per pass attempt. That is 2nd in the league to only Russell Wilson.

However, if you look at "completed air yards per completion" -- (defined as yards the ball traveled in the air past the line of scrimmage prior to a completion) Baker Mayfield is averaging 6.4 yards (currently 13th among starters)

That means he throws on the money and gives his receivers room for YAC

Wonder if Lamar's still considered overrated now? :mjpls:
Lamar's never going to not be overrated in some of these folks eyes. Even if he wins us a SB everyone will be saying it was the team, meanwhile when we won one with Flacco, no one mentioned how many times Boldin bailed him out. Flacco should sending that man some checks.

That's what I was saying earlier in this thread. I'm not even a Baker Mayfield fan, but I don't see how people can say he's overrated when I would argue he is THE most criticized and shyt on QB over the past few years.
Coli posters get it confused. They just feel like Baker is overrated because he’s more popular amongst fans and has more commercials than they’d like. But as far as his play goes Baker is the most criticized QB in the league relative to his skill and team situation.

He's underrated. If Atlanta finishes the job in that 28-3 debacle, this is a totally different conversation.

Tom Brady is the GOAT because he has spent two-plus decades managing games while excelling in crunch-time situations. It's not the worst thing in the world to be a game manager.

To answer the question, Josh Allen is not the most overrated quarterback in the NFL and would have won MVP last season if not for Rodgers' absurdly efficient season.

As far as Lamar ... at his current stage is a game-breaking talent and an above-average quarterback. He does not play it at an elite level -- based on the previous standards set forth -- but has the talent to redefine those standards assuming he continues to grow as a passer.

Baker has never been a game manager, that's the funny thing. Dude big game hunts more than a lot of qbs, the Browns naturally started throwing less once Chubb and Hunt got on so he's not in a position to put up gaudy passing numbers.
