You must be kidding, right? Alright maybe in terms of sales as an individual artist and overall, "star appeal" but in terms of impact Pharrell and Chad changed the whole eras sound for a good few years.
But there's no doubt in my mind that there'd be no Kanye without a Pharrell. He was that, "normal" guy before anyone. Then it was Kanye, Lupe, Charles Hamilton and finally we're at J.Cole. Cole is the weakest out of all of them and Lupe's on crack.
Sales, star appeal Pharell was no where near Kanye. That speaks to his impact, but yes he did influence a style with production but even that style(sound) was not as influential meaning it did not connect to a audience to a point where he would be considered some sort of trendsetter; He wasn't that "normal" guy before anyone; he had a run that was built off trendy production
