Is Kanye the father of this era of "softness"?

why are people so focused on who seems "soft"

nikkas living vicariously through all these so called 'hard' rappers, anyone can come on the scene and fool a whole society for a couple dollars. you got labels creating rappers now, and that aint even the tip of the iceberg. this is why i keep stressing to take a rapper's skills into account more than anything else. but you don't hear me doe

Yep. The chickens coming home to roost. All that "hard shyt" from the late 80s to 2008, in terms of negativity, is boomerang-ing back to their faces and it is hurting their chances. Now with the interent, that "hard" shyt ain't coming back.

as opposed to some tight pants fakkit, singing about weed and getting dumped :ehh:

Yeah, but you want Hip Hop and fashion to stay the same? Post 2005, that baggy clothes shyt got old as fukk. Basically, black folk can express themselves in this era and much less closet homos, so people are more upfront, unlike Mr Cee. :russ:

I made a thread about this. When Kanye outsold 50 when they dropped on the same day that shifted the genre. Labels then started pushing the soft nikkas and left the street nikkas in the cold. nikkas like Jeezy suffered because of it.

Street nikkas played themselves out cause they stagnated and became too damn predictable.

Nah he's a dikk riding fakkit that loves the attention but as a mainstream rapper he's caking the most. As a MAINSTREAM rapper that should be your only goal.

Edit: And by first I mean in terms of selling yourself as a brand first and foremost. But let's not go off topic with this.

If we talking bout history of Hip Hop, I gotta say Kurtis Blow or Run DMC

you gotta give gucci mane and tpain credit though. People underestimate their impact on the game.

Take someone like Future. He music basically a combo between 808's Ye, Tpain and gucci....
Underrated post...

Pple underestimate Gucci's influence on the game a lot...

I compare him with cam'ron... short mainstream commercial success but a long lastin' influence on the game... Plus he done put a lot of the big names on....

i have always said, the day 50 lost that sales war to kanye, the gangsta rap era officially ended. the streets are not needed to validate shyt anymore. and yes i blame 50 for it.50 shoulda cheated and let the king of the soft generation nowhere near the throne.
remember that scene from that ludacris video 'stand up' where he sneaks his crew through the backdoor

that's what kanye did to hip hop!!!! he snuck in the softies!!!
KANYE IS TO BLAME FOR THIS GENERATION-for the good and the bad!!!!!TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!

The softies are kids that grew up in gen Y, who had shyt much easier than Gen X. Plus them street rappers were showing their age at that point.

:mindblown: You must be kidding, right? Alright maybe in terms of sales as an individual artist and overall, "star appeal" but in terms of impact Pharrell and Chad changed the whole eras sound for a good few years.

But there's no doubt in my mind that there'd be no Kanye without a Pharrell. He was that, "normal" guy before anyone. Then it was Kanye, Lupe, Charles Hamilton and finally we're at J.Cole. Cole is the weakest out of all of them and Lupe's on crack.

Still outsold him when they went toe to toe....both rapper/producer combo so how is he the weakest ?

a mixture of Kanye putting out good music and 50 making it impossible for any other "gangsta" rap nikkas to get in the game, he damn near got rid of all of the east coast nikkas outside of jay and nas to be honest, the trap nikkas were already making moves by that point but they weren't really embraced by the general public yet, thug motivation 101 went plat and was STILL kind of underground unless you was in the hood or down south.

that shyt opened the floodgates for all of those regular ass nikkas to sneak in,right when rap blogs were peaking, word 2 the first couple XXL Freshman lists
