Is Kendrick Lamar Overrated?

I saw it on your list of the best albums of the last 10 years.

I'm sure Rosenberg would roll with GKMC over those 2 Ye albums

& yeah GKMC is ONE of the best albums in the last decade or so. Definitely not the best one tho

Kendrick is an awesome storyteller with a dope flow

but if you put his lyrics on paper it's not that great
it's nice story telling wise but not lyrically

Control is the best example, his flow was amazing!!!!!
But............. on paper lyrics were almost nothing

So in conclusion he is a great storyteller with a great flow
Lyrics is another topic though, he's not at all a great lyricist like those in my sig!

He's a great lyricist...Not an elite lyricist but hes definitely great. Hes just no always lyrical. Nah. Hes way too versatile to pidgeon hole into one style of track. That would get boring quick.

If he kept remaking the same style song over and over he'd be as boring as some of them artists.

You can't listen to Section 80 and says its not dope lyrically... hes not that lyrical beast that is Lupe fiasco (but then again I consider lupe to be the goat lyricist) but hes great nonetheless.

the way I see it, Kendrick is a complete mcee.
Kendrick has already proven in the past that he can go bar for bar with the best of them but he would be canibus status if he was doing that shyt all the time. Theres gotta be a balance and he does a great job of keeping that balance hes a great lyricist but doesnt get too technical

He can be very lyrical, he can rely on his flow, he can make club songs, storytelling songs, ignorant songs, west coast bangers, etc

Kendrick just had to find the perfect balance because he has fans who expect him to excell in every aspect of music.
When Kendrick drops a lyrical track, his other fans are crying because they want another backseat freestyle,

I wouldnt say overrated. You could have a discussion that he's "overhyped" by certain blogs and some of his fans.

Kendrick is amazing and anyone saying anything else is a hater.

I can agree he does have some flaws. His voice changes bother me sometimes and I like section 80 more then GKMC. GKMC is not as consistent as section 80 and just because something is done as an concept dont automatically make it great.

But I like I said, Kendrick is not overrated. He is as good as many makes him out to be and I think he will prove it with this next album (please dont use your "I" voice again tho kendrick).



If anything you could make a thread about GKMC being overrated.

He dropped a amazing debut album so people tend to overrate him, it comes with the territory I guess.. now if he drops a disappointing follow up and still get praise u can call him overrated for sure

Always thought s80 was just good, great lyrics but the rest was pretty meh

he said that because lupe was trolling him though (even though hes my goat lyricist, I feel like lupe is being jealous because he thinks he should have the same praise)

At the end Lupe even compared gkmc to Aquemini and said kendrick can't be the best because it was too soon. But Lupe has already talked about kendrick as a potential beast if he could drop other albums.

Talib Kweli said the same thing, he said it was too premature to call him the best and then said; "not right now, but hes coming for that spot"

When I talk about kendrick being one of the best, I'm talking about this generation (2010-2015), I'll start comparing him to all time greats when he has a few more great albums under his belt, not before.

K-Rino is light years ahead of Kendrick. More than light years infact, needs to be a new word invented to express how much better he is than Kendrick. It is quite ridiculous to suggest an artist with, what is it, 1 mixtape/album and 1 official album is better than an artist who has over 20 albums, some of which are extremely high quality work objectively speaking. But people can like what they like, but objectively it isn't logical.

But If I want to play a whole album from front to back with out having to skip songs or stop listening when there is still two more tracks to go, I would pick section 80 over GKMC. with the exception of 1 track, I think all the tracks on gkmc are at the very least "GREAT" most of them are perfect to me. on the other hand, I think s80 only has 3 great tracks or at least 3 tracks that I like, I do find the album great lyrically but it has too many flaws IMO. As for gkmc, I think it has undeniable skills and this is the reason why I believe its rated perfectly as a modern day classic.

just my opinion though, I usually play gkmc from start to finish all the time (with good kid & backseat being my fav joints) but s80... I just can't listen to it like that. The composition isn't that great imo.

IMO, gkmc > OD > s80
