hes definatley a plant.. someone paying for those spins... a song like "cant hold us" doesnt just get played around the clock on every major station when it aint even that hot

didnt thrift shop blow first?

To your first statement, that's not what ppl mean when they say industry plant, that's just payola, pretty standard industry practice these days.

To your second comment, yeah thrift shop blew up first but Same Love is what initially got him the attention of the big wigs. That song gave him the Ellen Degeneres platform before thrift shop took off.

He's Independent, he pays Warner Brothers for marketing and promotion for each single, they aint taking a cut, he's basically outsourced these services to them for a payment, and in turn he gets the access and push for his singles that a major label artist would. Honestly I don't know why the majority of artists don't do this.

I'm not a fan of his music, but I have to respect his grind, I remember homies on facebook posting his music a couple years back. Also I respect the fact that his new single "White Lines" which I heard on the radio this morning features Schoolboy Q, it's dope he pushed that joint, hopefully it'll help Q get that album out.

Unless you got some factual evidence Im sure WB is getting a cut from the sales of those singles unless he paying them a whole lot, doesnt make sense for them to not take a % especially after they saw what Thrift Shop did, maybe not as much of a cut as an artist signed to them, but they gotta be taking something

I dont slap macklemore and I dont got no opinion on the gay shyt because it dont concern me. Now money wise itsa good move cuz if u say all the gays love'm then they cashin out.

I just brought that up cause it seemed like in my eyes he was using the gay community as a talking point to make money, gain exposure, and sell records.

He's being seen as some sort of pariah for social justice when many other rappers have done the same.

First time i heard Macklemore was about 2-3 years ago when he dropped my oh my about some Seattle sports personalty. And I didnt think the song was that great but to do such a song as a rapper made me check him out. And I liked some of his older stuff. He later dropped Wings and cant hold us about 2 years ago. Then same love and thrift shop last summer. He wasnt that big last summer but his following was still strong for a indie artist. But when the Thrift Shop video started to get views on youtube the radiostations and sports advents started playing it. Then he got BIG. And he re released cant hold us. So nah, I wouldnt say he is a industry plant. But you guys keep on thinking that since you dont want to believe an artist you hate cant get big without backing of a mayor.

And yeah, he knows he stole hip hop from blacks long before he blew and The Coli claimed it.

Exactly. nikka didn't just come out of nowhere, he was doing Rock The Bells in 2011 off indie support and had been a staple in Seattle Hip-Hop for even longer. When he graced that XXL cover I was :wtf: cause the nikka like 40 rapping for a decade previously, talking about being a XXL Freshmen.
