Pure skill I always used to have A-Rod as my GOAT. Just the insane accuracy. Able to make plays with his feet and buy time until something opened up.. The back shoulder throws or throwing over a receiver's ear. The intelligence. Ability to be aggressive yet conservative at the same time. To me Mahomes is 2.0 version of what A-Rod was doing.

As much as everybody hypes up the receiving core Mahomes proved last year he could still kill it while the Chiefs were facing big injuries. Tyreek was out and they were still killing shyt last year for the games he missed. He's had a weak RB core. Kelce is the only other really star weapon. Plus people ignore how bad the line is and how Mahomes has to stay on the move and buy time for his receivers. He does a lot to get his players open either with his eyes or his feet to shift defenses and buy time until the defense is out of position and something opens. What stands out the most is just the consistent accuracy. I was saying in yesterday's game thread how after watching other QBs consistently missing throws even while dinking and dunking and then watching Mahomes consistently hit tough ass throws and am genuinely surprised when he's off on a throw.

And I think the most underrated thing about Mahomes is his ability to figure out defenses and his confidence level. He never gets down and even when defenses are kicking his ass it's only a matter of time before he figures things out and starts putting numbers on the board.

I've said before that barring injuries Mahomes will have all those major statistical QB records like passing yards, TDs, etc by the time he retires.

Rodgers run from 2011-2014 was unbelievable. Marino was that that guy before him. Unlike Marino and Rodgers though, Mahomes is with a competent organization that has put talent around him at skill positions and coaching that caters to his strengths.

Guys like Brady and Montana are looked at as the ultimate winners from the position, but Mahomes has the opportunities to have better numbers and just as much title hardware as well.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC

You do realize NFL Media and heads were saying these same things about Manning as well, throughout most of the 00s? Then the conversation picked back up when he came back off that neck injury crushing shyt in Denver...

Specifically, the conversation was, "is this guy the best we've ever seen at the position?"

You dudes have no respect for history, even recent history, it aint like Manning retired 38 years ago or something. This guy in his prime innovated the position from the line of scrimmage, and I'm not about to overvalue "mobility" because he had possibly the highest IQ a QB has ever had that negated the fact he was immobile...

He beat defenses with his brain way before he beat them with his arm, and we not about to act like he didn't have an arm to make every single throw. Every single one...

We also gonna stop painting this air of perfection around Mahomes, I saw him throw at least two idiotic passes yesterday, which isn't unusual for him, its just more often than not he completes the pass and people forget it wasn't an actual smart play, so when he misses, its ignored...

Marino--->Favre--->Manning--->Rodgers--->now Mahomes. He's the latest evolution in these guys, I keep telling you prisoners of the moment lol...how he plays in big games will ultimately determine where he winds up All-Time, but on a pound for pound scale, I've yet to see anything convincing of why he's better than any of those guys. None of these guys played in vacuums and your surroundings and organizational infrastructure have to enter the comvo at some point...

Also, he ain't better than Wilson or Watson, he just has better support than those two. He certainly hasn't held up this level of elite play as long as Russ, so holla at me when he sustains this for longer, and Watson is flat out on par with this dude without the requisite weapons from the top down...

Russ isnt better than prime Rodgers, not even close.

Stop it, don't do that...

I'm old enough to have seen a lot of Marino and Joe Montana but Mahomes is on pace.

I agree he's on pace. Taking nothing away from him, Mahomes is amazing, the best QB in football if only because he's the most exciting and on the best team. The way he's come out the gate is prolific but it isn't unprecedented, so people lose me with these "best we've ever seen" rants like there aren't guys this was said about prior...

Not as old as you but having grown up in the era that caught Manning's entire career and his entire prime, that alone gives me a no to this question. Not even mentioning watching Brady and Brees for 20 years, two guys who not the most naturally gifted but one is the unquestionably the most clutch QB I've ever seen period, and the other when he was at his apex, had a cannon that carried a piss-poor defense and a revolving door of middling skill position pieces in New Orleans for YEARS....

Anybody giving a yes to this question automatically I'm questioning their football IQ...

He's not the greatest but next to Arod he is the most talented QB I've seen. It helps to have a great offensive mind as his coach and weapons all over the field

I got to see him play in an environment that is not damn near perfect for a QB like KC is...where he got two of the best offensive minds in football scheming stuff up for him...for example I have a new found respect for Rodgers because I always knew McCarthy was a moron but the coaching job he has done in Dallas is one of the worst I have seen in recent history...the fact that Rodgers could have an absolute moron as a coach and still win as much as he did speaks to how great he truly is...part of being great is how you look when everything around you looks like shyt and Mahommes hasn't been in that position yet.

The thing with posters wanting to see him with lesser weapons..that’s not gonna happen for a while. Reek is still locked in for 2-3 years..Travis is gonna retire a chief. Mecole is on his rookie deal. Not to mention the Chiefs GM is one of the best in the league right now.

Also you really can't judge it that way anyway. Are we going to rule guys like Montana & Brady out of the GOAT debate because they spent pretty much their entire(at least the prime) careers in the perfect situation? Same goes for guys like Jordan, Magic & Bird in the NBA.

So now cats gonna switch it up and say their is no thing as individual greatness but team greatness. If that's what y'all are saying then be consistent with that.

Marino couldn't run or extend plays. For his era he's was up there but he can't be in the same category.

Marino could move better then you think early on in his career pre surgeries and after that he sidestepped pressure to avoid sacks well.

Throwing the ball is still the most important Qb trait and Marino is as good a pure thrower that’s ever lived

Mahomes and Rodgers throw it at the highest level and have playmaking ability that Marino didn't therefore he's not on their level. Dan isn't making that play in the Super Bowl to Hill nor is he making that run vs Tennessee.

Rodgers isn't as athletic as Mahomes so Patrick has a leg up on him.

Not yet. I wouldn't put him pass Manning, Brady, and Montana just yet. He gotta have the longevity and the numbers. He's gotta keep this going for a while.
