Dude tore his ACL in the final month of his senior season. He has higher round talent. Besides who gives a fukk what round he was drafted in? Once he's on the field that means jack shyt. In his 6 games he played like a rookie QB drafted in any round. Were Andrew Lucks rookie ints better ints cause he was drafted in the 1st round? No.

I care what round he was drafted in because that round has never produced anyone besides the 3 mentioned above. Combined with his poor rookie year, it's extremely unlikely he becomes good. Not saying it's impossible just unlikely .

Thing is the likelihood of a 6th round pick ever turning into a quality starter is minimal. Other the Brady, there's no one....and he's obviously the extreme expection.

I'll correct myself slightly- the 6th round produced Marc Bulger and Matt Hasselbeck.
are we talking this era or overall ? because there are quite many qbs in hall of fame who were late round picks

This era is different though, the days of waiting 2-3 years are gone, nobody can pull a McNair or Rodgers

From like the 4th round on its not likely. I think Romo and Brady are the only two above average starters currently.

People acting like Mettenberger only dropped because of his attitude. Take a look at his pre-draft analysis. Judging from what people are saying, dude is still the same cat. Meaning a full training camp and a season's worth of experience still hasn't changed his tendency. Time to look elsewhere if you're Tennessee.

STRENGTHS
Exceptional size. Outstanding arm strength -- spins it with velocity and can make all the throws. Can drill the deep out and fit it into a tight window across the field throwing to his left. Ran an NFL-style offense under coordinator Cam Cameron and learned how to become more of a leader as a senior.

WEAKNESSES
Heavy-footed with a long delivery, which translates to the pocket closing on him quickly when he moves and is forced off a spot. Takes unnecessary sacks and is rattled easily under duress. Really labors to hasten his release and get rid of the ball quickly when needed. Has tunnel vision and arms the ball too much. Tends to trigger late and frequently underthrows the deep ball. Does not throw receivers open and forces them to adjust. Can learn to take pace off the ball and throw with more touch, better timing and anticipation. Had a very strong supporting cast with NFL-caliber receivers and a stout offensive line. Weight fluctuated early in his career and arrived at LSU pushing 260 pounds. Is coming off an ACL injury and will require some rehabilitation time. Character will require closer scrutiny.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Rounds 4-5
BOTTOM LINE
Pure dropback, strong-armed thrower who will require patient, confidence-building play-calling and a clean pocket to function at a high level in the NFL. Has starter talent in a vertical, downfield passing attack if he can learn to take command of a huddle and continue progressing as a decision-maker. How he interviews with teams could go a long way toward determining his draft status.

Do you really trust a QB who has a slow release, poor feet, stares down WR's, and buckles easy when the pocket collapses to bring you a Super Bowl win? Not to mention already has an entitled attitude?

word. i wonder if chip kelly would be willing to trade for mariota after a year or two (if he even still with the eagles). A year or two on the bench can lower a players trade value with the quickness.
He was supposedly still trying to trade for Dion Jordan a few weeks ago, so if Mariotta ends up struggling i wouldn't be surprised to see him try again.

The way I see it, Mariota's problems are mainly technique oriented whereas Mettenberger's are between the ears. You can fix one, but not the other.

Sounds like Mettenberger is a gun slinger. Which would explain why dude talks reckless and can't control his impulses. No way I hand over the keys to the franchise over to someone who can't handle adversity and pressure, especially not when there's a QB available for the taking that showed he could in college.

Mettenberger was a really good value for a 6th round draft pick, but he has a low ceiling, imo. Mariota, will not help them immediately but Ken Whisenhunt is old school in the sense that he develops his players. He helped develop Ben Rothlisburger and helped revitalize Kurt Warner who was on his way out the league. People are smoking crack comparing Mariota to Alex Smith and this coming from a 49ers fan. First of more QBs are going to come out of the spread, some will adjust quickly some won't. But Mariota has way more potential than Mettenberger, and can move around in the pocket and make plays with his feet if needed and you need that to freeze defenses in the NFL. I'll admit he is a high risk pick but what do the Titans really have to lose. Most of Mariota weaknesses are coachable.

yeah in this era results are expected very fast for no real reason imo, because you still cant build a short-term win-right-now team in the NFL.
sometimes gms just throw a bunch of shyt on the wall and see what sticks, and what doesnt gets the immediate bushes treatment.
