"With an unblemished 49-0 record, Rocky Marciano hung up his leathers for good -- retiring as the only undefeated heavyweight champion in history. It is one of sport's most hallowed accomplishments. Yet some historians have opted to resist the Marciano bandwagon. As one famed trainer reportedly said, "Show me a fighter who's undefeated and I'll show you a fighter who hasn't fought anybody." The critics' primary grievance has always been the age of Marciano's aforementioned marquee opponents and the time he chose to fight them...." which is EXACTLY what Mayweather's critics say about him- he fights past their prime fighters, aging them out and waiting for the opportune moment to fight them when the advantage is on his side, avoids the sitffest competition and never takes challenges to protect his "0". Mayweathers strongest supporters tho say he just doesnt have any competition and scoff at fighters like Margarito, Williams, Tsyzu, Pacquiao, Martinez...so is Mayweather this generation's version of Marciano- a really good undefeated champion that will never be mentioned amongst the legendary greats in history?

So Floyd fights people when they are over the hill past prime but in the same breath wanted him to fight Tsyzu who was:flabbynsick: by the time Floyd got to 140

:deadrose:

He waits for fighters to get old yet ignore him calling out N chasing DLH N Shane for years
:dead:

He wants undefeated Cotto N Hatton at 140 they say no thanx...but as soon as they are "ready" if Floyd doesnt fight them right then its a duck:wtf:

Floyd's consistently called out and fought the best of his era, this is just a myth that people with selective memory made up and other misinformed people ran with to try to take away from accomplishments.

His resume is a who's who of great fighters from his era. You can't argue with the names on the list and let's not forget that he beat them at their natural weights. Never had to drag his opponents down to any bullshyt catch weights to drain them and steal an easy victory like certain other fighters have been known to do. :usure:

For anyone still under the delusion that Floyd was ducking Shane "My tooth hurts and i need a vacation" Mosley. :skip:

the fukking guy blows up to 170 why wouldnt he make it a catchweight?

Because Floyd, Ellerbe, and FLoyd Sr all said it doesnt matter what he weighs on fight night. Skills pay the bills right? So why criticize Pac for catchw eights and then do the same thing, when you already fought at the division twice with NO catchweight???

Guys, this thread is about the comparisons between the careers, legacies, etc of Mayweather AND Marciano. Lets keep stanning at a minimum and stay on topic and not turn this thread into another pacquaio KTFO/mayweather PPV #s/shane mosleys toothache thread. :beli:

Though most of Floyd's biggest names on his resume were past prime when he fought them, Marciano was fighting 40 year old greats way past their primes. Marciano in the 70's would've been put in the hospital. Floyd's clearly fought better competition.
