It's a fukking movie and looks entertaining. Some of you faux militants need to have a coke and a smile.
I used to be offended by the term "millitant" when I first discovered the coli:francis:now I fully understand why the word exists as an insult here

You are naming one movie, we as blacks have had to see this shyt since film has been around. And film does play a big part on how people are perceived. The fact that some just think it's a film shows me some of y'all are not aware of how media affects your thinking.
If you want to treat comedies as documentaries go ahead breh. I hope you don't think the concept of American marriage consists of overweight aloof husbands and slim wives that have friends that consistently pop in and out of their lives

You are playing ignorant, but being ignorant doesn't change the facts of something. Media is used to manipulate your thinking, this is a proven fact. Look at "birth of a nation". That movie helped spawn the growth of the ku klux klan, and we know how fukked up they were. Even from how blacks are viewed throughout the world came mostly from movies. Only recently has rap music done this.

Why do you think people look as blacks as nothing but smiling comedians? It's because that's what most of the popular films with blacks were about until the '70's. Also, why do you think whites feel threatened by blacks who don't play the smiling buffoon? It's because the films in the '70's that weren't about buffoonery, were about going after "the man". We know who the man represents, white supremacy. So, you see films effect how a lot of people think.

Another thing. Why is it that when blacks call out each other for going along with division within our community with people making jokes like calling dark skin people or Africans monkeys or dark skin jokes, some say we are too serious or militant? It's one thing to make a joke, its another to use the same jokes your former MASTERS, and KILLERS, did to you.

Black people wake the fukk up!

I get what you are saying, answer this, what type of movies should be made by blacks for blacks keeping in mind there are no boundaries or anything to stop a white person from watching our movies just like we have options to not watch and pay for movies written directed and starring all white people.

Surely we can have comedy, satire and parody right? As well as drama, romance, suspense, horror etc right?

You're not getting what I'm trying to convey. Yes, we can have comedy, but why does it have to be the same type of jokes that got our people looked down by the world, and with each other?

As for other types of movies, the only time I see black movies where the people aren't assed out, or just plain buffoons, is on Netflix. Everywhere else its the same old bullshyt, and its ALWAYS so!ething about the actor being black. Why can't the actor just be part of the story? You know this is real because blacks never win an Oscar win the story is about blacks not being fukked up. The Oscar nominations just got released, yet NO black people. This year they have multiple choices to choose from, yet NO blacks, and the reason is because those movies don't have blacks looking docile, criminals, weak, or like buffoons. Look at all the winners for every Oscar there was, they all played "negative" roles, which reinforce the stereotypes. It's obvious as day they don't fukk with strong black people!

Listen man its just movies, look at the movies that win, they are about triumphant coaches, heroes, smart businessmen, clever bad guys, bad father's, good father's, someone incurring a loss or overcoming adversity or portraying a role excellently if you don't want to see a black man in those roles then I don't know what to say.

If it's that bad then continue to advocate for black people to write direct and star in their own movies and support them when they do so and maybe we can have our own Oscars.

Sure some black folk intention is to just look down on other folk. That's the respectability, "pull ya pants up" shyt. But in other situations we can rightfully cringe cause like I said, "we laughing at ourselves" got a long minstrel/Jim Crow context of harmful & exploitative stereotypes.

You absolutely right that this is a black movie for black audiences so we should be able to enjoy ourselves. But that's the ideal situation. Would I really care if this shyt was some comedy set in Apollo?? Nah. The difference here is, how many time we talk bout Hollywood marginalizing black actors & still giving us minimal roles & boxing us in mindless comedy & slavery movies? Everyone from Viola Davis to Michael B Jordan been regretted bout this. So if Mike Epps, a famous black celebrity, is gone produce a movie like this....you think we will ever be seriously represented in some big budget all-American movie with leading/substantial/layered roles? Matter fact, if they never give us those substantial roles, shouldn't we be trying to make them movies ourselves?

We comparing Viola Davis and Michael B to Mike Epps? Yall do realize people who fit sterotypes exist right?Mike Epps is a goofy, loud nikka from the hood, who talks about doing drugs, strippers and other ratchet behavior in his standup:pachaha:....a serious actor like Michael B Jordanand Violetta should regret always being asked to play this role as if there is no other type of black person that exist....Even Mike Epps I don't think always wants to play that same nikka which is why he has expanded on what types of roles he's taken as of late....But that don't mean he should be ashamed to play a goofy nikka from the hood when that's who he is.

Yall basically want people from the hood who relate to Mike Epps to go unrepresented,if Mike Epps style of comedy wasn't real it wouldn't be funny, and he wouldn't be popular, and he wouldn't have been around for as long as he has.....I'm not sure why yall would be so shook of stereotypes being reinforced in a movie for black people,as if black people don't know black people like Mike exist, have people like Mike in they family, live around nikkas like Mike,or are Mike themselves:jbhmm:.

Only explanation I could come up with is nikkas are ashamed of what white people might think, when white people aren't the audience...Or that some people in this thread are too uptight, ashamed of where they may have come from,or hate the hood and many of the people in it,for simply being who they are and different from you:jbhmm:

The only problem is when this is the ONLY role, and only type of movie in Hollywood for black people, but I haven't seen a movie that looked this hood in a long time, and folks are being phony pretending this is all we see in Hollywood now:childplease:?maybe straight to dvd we see a lot of it,but that's about it....We talkin bout the same Mike who walked off set on Lee Daniels who was trying to get him to do some c00n shyt he was uncomfortable with....he's not uncomfortable being himself and shouldn't be.

No, I get it. Im just not going to believe that its inappropriate or wrong for black people to laugh or have humour, or make certain types of movies. This movie isn't a crowning achievement. It's not like it shucking and jiving and being promoted by whites as the must see movie of the year because this is how blacks act. its just a simple small budget movie that will get limited release and will be forgotten about. This 'its unacceptable' mentality is dumb. Its like if a young black writer was pitching a book and ya'll were like "How the fukk are you gonna write about wizards and elves when nikkas are being shot by police officers and failing in public schools at a disproportionate rate than all other races?" Like what the fukk...it's not that deep. Do I prefer the deeper shyt..the more real shyt? Yea but the light hearted stupid humour is ok too, ya'll act like this is a video of mike epps tap dancing eating watermelon and shining shoes while getting whipped by a white man and laughing and joking.
