Is Nas being a great rapper only an online thing?

:mjcry:

I been talking to some dudes about rap and I was talking about my favorite rapper being Nas and that I believe that he deserves to be mentioned as a legend in the game. As soon as I say that shyt everybody I have talked to about it looks at me :dwillhuh: and now alot of these people got me by about 20+ years so I'm just genuinely curious about this. People will bring up Pac as a great artist but then when I say Nas is a great artist they look at me crazy.

While I was born in the 90s I wasn't really allowed to listen to much rap when I was younger because my parents really didn't care for the genre and its vulgarity. So alot of my taste has been developed after the fact. I know that different regions have different tastes (I live in Oklahoma) so I know that has some bearing on the answers I was given.

Lol no it's not, he's not the most widely picked GOAT I've seen, Pac is, but he's normally seen as great by most, heard different people argue Nas vs Jay over the years, I preferred Nas, most people I know did too but heard people say Jay too.

Nas is a Great MC, Lyricist, and Rapper...

But Artist????? :patrice:

I dunno bruh. I don't see people dying to see him in concert, I only remember like 2 of his music videos and I feel like as an great artist you have to bring more than just lyrics to the table....

He's in my top 10, but I understand where the causal music fan is coming from.

Pretty much online he's a legend but I rarely hear anyone mention him offline. Can't remember the last time someone brought his beef with Jay-Z up like you see online just about every month. No one calls each other a Stan or says ether. The rest of the world moved on while online communities seem to be stuck in some old ass era

:mjcry:he is still the GOAT to me.

Seeing some your replies I can see why they felt the way they did on the topic. Like I said my knowledge is more after the fact so it makes sense for me to feel Nas like that versus those who focused more on the bigger artists of those times.

I remember saying that Illmatic was the greatest rap album ever and the group looked at me like:rudy:
Based on the online stannage you'd think dude gets talked about constantly but he really doesn't. Still won't change the fact that his 94-96 run cemented his top 10 spot forever.
