Damn near every new R&B song I hear by these new singers contain profanity
I can't even listen to R&B anymore without being called a "n1gga"
"All these n1ggas full of shyytttt"
"When dat n1gga pull up on me, tell dat n1gga back back"
"I'm so sick of you n1ggaz"
"I'm so bored wit myself, can you come and fukk me"
And any Chris brown song or hook you KNOW is gonna be full of profanity:
"I need you to bring all your friends and let's fukk it uuuupppp"
The 2 most talented artists of today to me is Ari Lennox and Anderson Paak and I can't really listen to their music like that due to the profanity.
I'm at a point in my life where I've ascended mentally the past few years and I don't like alot of profanity in my music anymore. It sucks because I'm a HUGE R&B head but it's so cringe hearing these talented singers curse like rappers.
How hard is it to write a love song without using profanity??? Whose behind these lyrics??? Why would they think it's a good idea to "ratchet" up an artform that's supposed to be about love and affection??
I just don't get it. The "tinfoil hat" side of me thinks it's by design. Words are extremely powerful. They're literal spells and a part of me thinks it's by design to keep US (the masses) using these literal "curse" words even if subconsciously. Even those of you who DONT curse, will curse when singing along to these songs. Our kids will curse along to these songs and before you know it ....they're cursing regularly in their everyday talk.
What y'all think. Am I the only one that cringes at the profanity in R&B music or am I just getting
Y'all cool wit it or do y'all listen to the edited version?
Read the entire post for context. Never said anything about Aaliyah using profanity, acknowledge the OTHER point I brought up. And you dont have to use profanity for it to trashy. Alot R&B old and new is trashy. Talking about sleeping with other another woman boyfriend/husband, "Doggystyle" by D.J, I could go on forever. These are great songs but them shyts are not as classy as yall make them out to be. shyt is literally no better than todays R&B.
Ngl when The Weeknd said “there’s a room full of nikkas” that shyt made me uncomfortable
You notice how damn near everyone who replied to your post with the Aaliyah video in it completely avoided and ignored the pedophilia aspect that you brought up in your post just to big up the R&B from their era right?
Lemme school you on 2 things about this forum real quick: myriad posters on here are disingenuous as fukk and will do anything to distort a discussion to justify nonsense. The 2nd one is there's an undercurrent of support for pedos amongst certain posters. The population of the first category is greater than the population of the second category.
Once you realize someone is arguing with you in bad faith, cut the discussion completely, even if it means they get the last word. Arguing with crazy & dishonesty just brings you down to a level of crazy you're probably unfamiliar with, and then you'll be engaging in nothing but a waste of time. Take nothing too seriously around here, especially the disingenuous ones.
I sound like an old breh but today's music really is unlistenable...even R&B, which is my preferred genre. And it’s all about drugs and sex.
There are so many songs with good beats that I hate listening to because of the lyrics. I don’t want my niece and nephew subjected to that.
Co-sign.I liked it when there was a clear line between R&B music and Hip Hop.
The Hip Hopification of R&B is horrible, just gutter sex music.
The shyt is not even "edgy" anymore, just vulgar and trashy.
Yep, it's the same for cartoons, tv and movies too. When you allude to it you pull more people in. Different generations can get more out of it. Older people and kids can both recognize a song has a good tune, but when you get a certain age it can make you cringe hearing/seeing certain things around younger/older family members.Innuendos are vastly better than coming out and sayin it. I can play songs with innuendos around my kids and I know a bunch of songs that I listened to as a kid that now make way more sense as an adult.

That's why I liked when old movies use to show two people kissing then it faded out and you see them in the bed next. I could sit there as a kid and watch that with my parents/grandparents. If it were 'modern' that kiss would go straight to a sex scene, but the fade out already alluded to what happened. You don't have to show/say everything in order for it to be effective. Likewise, with songs referring to your girl, lady, woman as 'bytch.'
Personally I think there is some really good R&B being put out by new artist. You'll just never hear any of it being played on the radio.Don't even waste your time on either new hiphop or RnB..preserve your sensibilities and dignity by avoiding that garbage.
They can't even sing for shyt, it's some talk whispering type of crooning. Zero vocal range, talent, subject matter or even decent production.
The longer the young hear this shyt the more they'll behave like N's or whatever.
The degeneracy in modern Black music is not natural, but by design.
Dude. They don't even make radio edits anymoreThis has been my biggest complaint for the past 10 years
