Just a decent album

Too many skippable tracks to be classified as a classic.

He shoulda really paid homage to Illmatic and dropped an album with just 10 tracks. Lose the tracks that weren't up to snuff (keep the AZ feature tho to maintain that symmetry)

1. Stillmatic Intro
2. Ether
3. Got Urself A Gun
4. The Flyest (feat. AZ)
5. You're Da Man
6. Rewind
7. One Mic
8. 2nd Childhood
9. Destroy & Rebuild
10. What Goes Around

^^ That's an album not to be fukked with.

Not sayin the tracks I left out were bad just sayin they weren't really GREAT songs. And for an album that's supposedly the spiritual successor to Illmatic, perhaps maybe he should have made a stronger effort to live up to the same standard.

:stopitslime: song was terrible I could give a damn who made it

remember Mary ask for that song to be removed from the album (correct me if I am wrong)

I always took that as meaning she didnt want to be in the middle of that beef. Wasnt she bout to tour with Jay or something??

My Country was pretty wack I'll admit that.

Not lyrically.. I mean Nas came correct... but that beat was ass. The whole composition of that track is just off. A real producer needed to step in and make that track work.

lol.. stfu

and I havent heard one so called classic album that didnt have skippables. NONE
at least 1 or 2 skippables
that hook was a nas a quintessential nas chorus - just awful. i play illmatic from back to front. i play death certificate all the way through, no skips. a classic should not tempt you to fast forward anything.

no one will have the same ear for every single song. Just not possible. if you can, thats great. Its just not even possible most times. if you can deliver 12 bangers out of say 14 or 15 songs on an album.. well you doing pretty well. Classic status is developed over years anyway. If I can go back and listen to a 80's or 90's or early 2000's album or song.. its classic in my eyes..

being a great artist is also about restraint. this is why you need a core of folks who know how to make an entire album from beginning to end. chip away at the extra fat. as someone said eariler, stillmatic couldve been really dope if the weaker tracks were omitted. but i'm not complaining - except about the chorus for my country. and the beat.

Something I noticed about a lot of rap fans, they would prefer a consistently mediocre/slightly above average project over a bunch of transcendent songs paired with a couple of misses. It's why dudes like Curren$y and Action Bronson get championed over Nas and Jay-Z on the internet.
