It's the worst I've seen, worst than 2008. At least in 2008, they were hiring entry level folks and offshoring wasn't as huge as it is now. My company is letting go of people on a monthly basis. Salaries haven't gone up either. I remember starting at $45k in 2007 for some data position and that same position entry level is like $50k.
There was no gig economy in 2008.

If you can’t find shyt you can at least get your ass on Uber, Uber Eats, DoorDash, TaskRabbit, etc.

If you can drive a car and decent with a drill you can at least get u some $.

I really never worked in my field and i have a business administration degree in Human Resources… that was like 20 years ago

When i got out of college I didn’t have the minimum 5 years experience and I constantly put in applications and ended up working at long beach docks as a longshoreman for years…

Hell of a pay but the hours took a toll and I switched over to claims adjuster
I used to want to work at State Farm in Bloomington, IL as an actuary, but got discouraged because I worked full time and felt I could do that and school smh

My homeboy has 20 years experience in logistics and a degree in IT. He just came of a contact we been working since 2010.

Been looking hard here in Atlanta and everywhere for the last 6 months. At least 150+ applications. Maybe three interviews. On some we will call you back.

He got a severance in June but we are near October. I feel bad for him.

I’ve been putting 100+ apps since last year. Maybe two offers. Everything I applied for was within my experience and skill.

It’s hard out here. I’m blessed I have a job now.

Because I haven’t done my resume in 10 years

Also being older and black… then im not only dealing with race discrimination but add in age discrimination
We need a thread if one doesn't exist already in where brehs can post resumes and people take a look and offer tips/updates.

It’s definitely tough out here. I’m grateful for my position and my network of executives and directors, so I feel like I could find something rather quickly if needed.

I’ve also been doing executive protection work on the side and been getting paid really good money, I might do that shyt full time at some point because the clients are out there.

This is how I survived for a year with no job along with my business, but it’s not for the faint of heart and can also be a trap. I’m not knocking it cause I’m never going to just sit on my ass and do nothing but between the long hours, 800 dollars in gas a month (real number) and wear and tear on my vehicle, ultimately it’s not very sustainable in most circumstances. You got to do what you got to do though.

Was talking with a friend in the music industry about this, after you hit 30+have a decorated resume, people don't view you as "potential" that they can take credit for, they're more worried about you possibly knowing more than them and taking their spot. They wanna hire people that they can tell their peers "look I taught this guy everything :smugdraper: " it gives them a story to tell.

Can't do that if you walked through the door already experienced and knew how to do everything.

That is the MAIN reason why "industry age" exist as a concept.

That's also why you very rarely see people "blow up" at an older age unless they created their own business themselves. You gotta give people space to take credit for your success or they deem you a threat.

I also think LinkedIn ruined the game as well. If you don’t have a linkedin profile some jobs will automatically bush your application.

And the fukked up thing about LinkedIn is it forces you to reveal too much.
LinkedIn is the fukking WORST or e-stalking online, Facebook is a close second, seen too many people get stalked and harassed
