Aint this the way many of you cake nikkas wanted? You wanted to push suburban/mango/moist/feminine rappers into the forefront because they represent how you really live your everyday lives so you got that now. You wanted nothing in-depth to come out of many of these rappers about anything other than Money, bytches, cars, clothes, and Trap talk because it "bumps in the whip" or" goes hard in the gym" or impresses struggling thots posing as struggle video vixens at some dusty ass ratchett spots so you got that now. You hated on everybody from the 70s, 80s and 90s who tried to speak on the game shifting this way by calling them :flabbynsick:, irrelevant, washed up, or a hater.

You didn't push for competition amongst these rap nikkas because long as they do strong first week numbers, None of that shyt even matters. Instead of chopping heads,All they do now is just take selfies, tweet threats one another and do friendly ass Khalid collabos not pushing each other. This is exactly the way you cake nikkas wanted the culture to evolve so shut your bloodclot crying:ufdup:
In the past six months we have new albums from Lupe, J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar.

Oddisee just dropped arguably AOTY and Skyzoo is about to drop an album soon.

If you can't find something to entertain you then that's your own damn fault

Was thinking both of these things. If you can't find something you like now its cause you're waiting for radio to hand deliver it to you. Go looking on SoundCloud or on Youtube or Spotify. shyt of all varieties is dropping constantly. If you can't find new music today you're better off killing youself before technology really starts to scare you.

From my experience no one in real life wants to listen to anything politically enlightening, informative, or uplifting. They want to hear songs about getting fucced up, fuccing bytches, and getting money. That's it...

And if you're into "rappity rap" and you brag about how you don't spend any money on music, you killed off your supply of artists by stealing their content. Now you are seeing the consequences

This comment was corny in 2007, and it's even cornier now.

It's like everyone repeats the same brainwashed line: "you not looking deep enough. turn off radio and look on internet."

As though people on the internet are dropping Illmatics and Cuban Linxs left right and center.

The vast majority of stuff, like 99% of unknown rap without any buzz, is pure shyt. Pure. And there are a zillion people releasing stuff. Do you really expect anyone with a life to sift through all that garbage in the hopes of finding one decent track?

That's the definition of insanity.

Go looking on SoundCloud or on Youtube or Spotify.

Tell us what BRILLIANT shyt you've found just sifting through Soundcloud, Youtube or Spotify.

Well people seem to think that continually bytching about it on forums is gonna solve it so they're just as insane.

I haven't found anything recently bc I've been busy finishing up undergrad stuff, but I have an illustrious history of internet finds

Found Wiz on Limewire in ~2007
Big Sean off Supa Dupa Freestyle on Youtube
J. Cole off Twitter before the Warm Up
Found YG off a Tyga feature on Datpiff
Rich Homie Quan off of SoundCloud before Type of Way was released as a single.
I was so early on SpaceGhostPurrp I actually created his Wikipedia page.
Casey Veggies off of a feature on DatPiff
Found Vince Staples off Twitter before Shyne Coldchain

ALL TRASH

You've already said in this thread that the only artist in the last decade you like is Rocky so I'm gonna have to :yeshrug: that. A lot of people do like those artists. I'm not out here actively looking for people that sound like 90's hip hop, that would be going backwards. But those are out there too if you know where to look (Combat Jack Show for starters). The moral of the story is that art reflects life and the reality of New York City in the 90's is not the reality that most people live in nowadays; so music is not going to sound like that anymore.

To be honest, and I have this problem myself now sometimes, a lot of people can't listen to music with an open mind. They hear a song and say, "that(X) doesnt sound like this(Y)" before even really giving it a chance. Of course song X doesn't sound like song Y, they're different songs made by different artists at different periods in history. But to say the new song is boring bc YOU can't wrap your mind around it is not the song or artists fault. (unless its some Soulja Boy/Trinidad James shyt)

I respect what you're saying but how can you expect me to be excited about digging when I'm gonna come up with YG and Big Sean? Cmon. I want superlative work. Not "regular nikka" mediocrity.

I don't want it to sound like the 90s. I've been anti-throwback from the beginning. I came from that era. I was one of the first people throwing up the middle finger at Joey Badass :russ:

I just want rap to return to that larger than life, creative inner-city vibe. Capture the spirit of the 90s (and even some of the early 2000s) but bring it forward to today. There are tons of ways to do that without sounding like a bad 90s reject. But the problem is that almost no one is willing to try. Because there are too many regular nikkas who are wannabees and not artistic-minded. To top it off, being as mediocre as your fanbase is what sells right now.

Logic, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa are probably the most creative out right now. but not really inner city in their personas. The two people I'm feeling the most atm are Travis Scott and Kevin Gates. but many of these guys are mood music. Travis (uppers) Gates(Lean) Chance(LSD). If you're willing to go into those zones this music is great. but if you're just at your house listening off a laptop its hard to appreciate the creativity of it. Kids these days are on tons of drugs, theres just no way around that fact. Listening to a lot of this music sober will have you confused as hell.

All of them regular ass burb nikkas. Nothing creative about them to be honest because creative people aren't regular.

If I need to be high to like your shyt, your shyt is trash. Because it's probably incoherent. And you don't worry about harmony and coherence when you're fukked up (two of the hardest things to pull off in music). Am I wrong for thinking this way?

You make great points though.

Cactano once said that what separates Rocky from your typical weed rapper (e.g. Wiz, Currensy) is that Rocky's music brings you into the high. There's a way Rocky's voice and eclectic beats (particularly Clams) gives a natural musical high. and it's dope as fukk.

With Wiz and Currensy, there is no high in their music. It's standard, regular nikka mediocrity. Just with a guy holding a blunt in his hand every time he does a video. I'd have to be high already to like their shyt. And that's weak to me.

his whole vibe is RnB. nikka autotune sings his whole career. The whole vibe is on some trap RnB shyt.

I know I'm not the only person that notices this.

@Art Barr
he has certain projects (beast mode) that are like that but not all of his music is r&b trap, monster and 56 nights sound nothing like your description.

and please don't call that nikka in here its too early to be seeing his paragraphs of rambling :beli:
