NY Hiphop falling the fukk off also aided this, New Yorkers the most charasmatic people in the country, let's be honest.
:heh:

just like a new yorker to feel the sun rises and sets on NY. snoop is charismatic, t.i. is charismatic, big boi is charismatic all regions got charismatic folks. the only thing NY had was a concentration of industry players who grew up together, that made for a lot of entertaining beefs and back stories of friendships, alliances, fall outs, and beat downs. The centralized fukkery of of all those artists and execs growing up around each other was entertaining, but the same shyt happened out west and in the south to an extent. matter fact, that's what i think hip hop is missing, the characters. the suge's, diddy's, irv gotti's, steve stoutes, dame dashes, master p's..background folks like no id and producers having worked together, creating crews etc. ...there is no new batch of entertaining figures. everyone is trying to be around everyone, we need more crews, groups, etc. that have stories that go with them. the way a newcomers can just jump in the game and have access to a top player simply waters down the allure and back story.

Yes it is, no dope videos, no real groups, no sense of competition, no legit beefs or battles, no interesting collabs, No Rap City, No Yo MTV Raps.

As a rap fan, as of today there is really really nothing I'm looking forward to :ld:
Agreed everybody too buddy buddy nikkas throwing out sublims not saying names .. No competition.. Nothing too different or pushing boundaries..

I think it’s because when it comes to the music, as a fan base, we failed to give the right amount of props to the people who deserved it. I see hip hop as an electronic band, where for the most part (there are exceptions), only the lead singer and sometimes the beat maker is widely known, while the rest of the band plays the cut.

For instance, there are tons of CLASSIC hip hop songs, like in my top 50 of all time, and I still can’t tell you by whom/how it was produced. By produced, I mean, who made the beat? Who mixed the track? Who came up with the concept? Who wrote the bars/and or hook? Who came up with overall the melody?

I feel like in any industry, if you don’t identify/reward/motivate the right people then it can’t be sustained.

nah, u just don't listen to much hip hop to know different

people with your mindset is the only thing what's wrong with hip hop

plenty of dope shyt out here, you just stuck in your ways

It never used to take an Archeological expedition. In fact since about 2001 I been gettin most of my info from here (SOHH alum). I click links at times but almost always feel like I'm being Punk'd. I be thinkin Ashton Kutcher is bout to pop out. It's to the point where I just read about the fukcery, hardly hearing new music.

I wait a couple of years before I even peep anything new. That way I miss all the GOAT/trash cycles and only the decent shyt remains.

What was the last hip hop project to blow you away? Not "oh that was aight." I mean like: "yo.... this is the one of the best things I've ever heard."[ quote ]

For me it came out just two days ago, "Integrity>" by Jme, and before that it was in December with "Remember Me EP" by Dot Rotten. Unfortunately Dot retired and is a producer now, but I think rap's great right now. The big name rappers haven't produced anything good in awhile but other than Weezy I'm not a fan of any of them. If Rocky comes through next week I'd say we're eating pretty good. Pilot Talk 3 is getting a lot of plays from me too. I still need to listen to Barter 6 and Carter 5 has to be coming out sometime soon. If Bobby Shmurda gets off and drops a dope album this could be a great year.

recommended some rap that's dope and creative that we haven't mentioned yet[ quote ]

Yeah I thought I was growing out of it but I went back and listened to some old gucci and realized nikkas don't make songs for me no more like that. Like I think that 56 nights is the best mixtape so far out of 2015. I usually only listen to future or currensy (that is new) nowadays
Yup me too

i think dry would be the best word to describe it. The rappers out now are skilled, but I think the lack of great producers is the biggest issue

they're not skilled.

the greatest skill in hip hop for a rapper is charisma. Finding a way to channel your charisma on the mic. Period.

In that department, 99.9% of modern rappers fail miserably

I meant in the technical sense, but I see your point too

Respectfully, I think we as hip hop fans gotta get out of that mentality. Because I think it's the cac influence getting into hip hop. Hip hop is not a 'technical' artform. Neither was soul, the direct father of hip hop.

When James Brown came out, critics said he wasn't musical, technical yada yada yada. His notes were minimalist and repetitive. They didn't realize that a) James had charisma unlike anything they'd ever seen and b) when your music comes from the dirt/struggles of life, what matters first is the creativity of the realness/passion.

Technical now and technical back then meant something totally different. Besides, you had to have charisma (the basics) before anyone started discussing what your technical attributes were.

Now you can come into the game with zero charisma and personality, and dudes will big you up for having bars. As if it's not the easiest thing in the world to come only with bars and nothing else.

Nas, Jay-Z, and Lupe had charisma? :sas1: It's always been like that. :sas2:

This has actually been a pretty great year for rap music so far. Easily better than 2014 which was mostly ass.

The thrill is gone however....if youre young and happy with the current climate, do you....but I remember when shyt was really exciting. Everything feels transparent now.

That said, Ive enjoyed A LOT of albums this year
