Y'all gotta understand this App Bubble is going to burst as majority of these App companies do not make money they just have large user basis thus their valuations are over inflated. Its going to be the dot.com bubble burst all over again.

I have my Masters in Computer Science. And there have been many AA that have sold apps for Millions. It doesn't get reported in news cause it's too positive.

what!? This is all lies. Name 3 Americans of African descent that have sold apps for millions. Black folks are just not going into the tech field like that.

These companies usually have low numbers of blacks in them. And usually the number of black employees at tech companies is the LOWEST compared to everyone else.

I think honestly the reason is so low is because most of them are working on stuff that we're not supposed to know and that we're not going to be able to participate in.

In other words, they are exclusionary on purpose.

I think that some people fail to realise that success in the tech industry takes more than just technology. You can have a brilliant original idea for a app/application and develop it yourself with your coding skills BUT...come back a month later and the app store is flooded with copycat/clones of your app. What would make your app successful over and above the other clones? So yes more black people should learn to code but to achieve the level of success of these big tech companies will be more complicated than just IT skills/certs.

In order to make you app successful you need a huge non-technology component to your company for marketing and for funding the maintenance of servers and infrastructure. This takes a lot of capital investment.

Many of these huge tech companies like Twitter etc have never made a profit. However what they do have are investors and big banks throwing investment dollars at these tech companies year after year to pay the bills and expand said tech companies - with the expectation that one day they'll make a profit.

Not saying it can't be done but it's easier for a 5 white guys from a tech startup than 5 black guys to get investors and banks to keep investing in their company/ideas.

Coming from someone who owns a business and works in IT at a Fortune 50 company...

You have to treat working at these tech companies like a paid internship. The real value in these jobs is who you know (not saying take a lower pay rate tho, make sure you get fair pay). Work hard and network while your are at each company. If your are a good employee (someone who volunteers for tough project, someone who is punctual and not whinny, someone who develops solutions instead of problems) you will get promoted. If you don't get promoted after 3 years in a job start looking for a better one. Maintain the good contacts you developed at a previous job. DO NOT STAY AT A JOB FOR MORE THEN THREE YEARS WITHOUT PROMOTION. If the company is not willing to invest in you the same way you invest in it. I would still be on a help desk at a company that dropped out the F500 years ago if I hadn't left. After a couple of years of moving up, live beneath your means and start building up a warchest. Develop contacts in your community so you can start doing outside consulting work. Develop a couple of business ideas with people you trust. Develop your startup while you are still employed so you can Syphon the pay you get from the white owned company into your business. This way you'll have developed 3 revenue streams instead of just having to depend on one.

It helps if you have a woman, someone who was already there before you took off real big, someone who is ambitious herself. Someone who knows how to move in all social environments and is very charming. She can help you network better at social events and she'll free up more of your time to focus on developing revenue streams instead of having to focus on the day to day.

Ask me anything tho. When it comes to black people banding together the game is to be told not sold.

You're unlikely to make money from raw materials in the 21st century. It's a 'knowledge economy'; you have to have knowledge, protected knowledge [exclusive knowledge, patents etc] to become wealthy.

The tech world is just another branch of the corporate world. Even tho the main players act like hippies and pretend to be progressive they have deep seated racism/insecurity about nikkaz. However it is possible to make it in that world as a token negro if you are extremely skilled (way more than fellow workers) and socially aware.

Keep in mind you will be a target from the moment you "set up shop" so your goals should be learning as much as you can and getting the fukk out. Despite all the blatant and not so blatant racism these cacs still respect a high skill set and knowledge.

But you can't be lazy, and you definitely gotta know your shyt.
