Kidd is one of those guys you had to watch play. Most cerebral player I've seen in all my years of watching the sport. His ability to make timely steals, track loose balls, snag the rebound at the most vital part of the game...Really was some Extra Sensory Perception shyt.He was a mutant when it came to "hustle-ability".Like Dennis Rodman, but doing it from the pg position.Awesome situational player with a freaky high sense of spatial awareness on the court. He wasn't the most outwardly emotional guy, but I've never seen a guy play with more energy or passion than J Kidd.Watched him every game when he played for the Suns.Put him in my unique/mutant category with guys like Charles Barkley & Dennis Rodman.Cliche as it might sound, these dudes had an extraordinary feel for the game.Like ball magnets nh.Things that might not necessarily show up on a stat sheet.
I don't think anyone can make a legitimate top-5 bball IQ ever list without Kidd being on it. Him, CP3, and LBJ would be the only unanimous members. (Rondo, Nash, Stockton, Walton are others who might sneak onto the list.....Draymond as the wild card.)

47 years post-retirement, Oscar still is one of the five greatest points ever and the consensus within the basketball community overall is he's a Top 10 All-Timer, or borderline; very, very few rankings put him below 12th. I'm not sure I have him in my Top 15, and I'm more of a Westbrook fan, but Westbrook isn't at that level...

Oscar was way bigger in his era than Russ is in his, and that has to count for something. It was Wilt/Bill, then it was Oscar Robertson. He was one and done alot but he made a conference finals run as a #1 and was a more prolific scorer. And no, he was thevsecind best player on Milwaukee's chip...

I'm never to be confused as an Oscar fan, I think he's overrated, but you're selling him short, bro...
"How big they were in their era" is an interesting question. 1st-team All-NBA isn't a perfect measure but it's a decent one. How many years were you considered the 1st or 2nd best guard in the NBA?

Cousy - 10 selections
West - 10 selections
Oscar - 9 selections
Magic - 9 selections
Harden (if you consider him a PG, which he's been whenever he's been great) - 6 selections
Kidd - 5 selections
CP3 - 4 selections
Frazier - 4 selections
Curry - 3 selections
Isiah - 3 selections
Nash - 3 selections
Tiny - 3 selections

There's a good chance that Curry and/or CP3 are gonna boost their total this year too.

That's 12 guys already. You can take Tiny off cause he got hurt and his window was too brief. Take West or Harden off if you want to claim they weren't point guards. But then you have to put Stockton (harder to rack up 1st-teams when it was Magic/MJ automatically every year until '92). That's 10 guys before we even talk about Payton, Dame or Penny.....

For sure, for guys I didn't see play, which would be before 1999 for me, since I dont have the memory of having watched them to form my own opinion, I lean on All-NBA, period pieces of what they were in their time, and for the most elite players, MVP finishes/placements year over year. There is no perfect measure but I think these are all fair descriptors to give you a guage on what guys were in the time they played!

Rings shouldn't be a determinant outside of the top 3-4 on that list IMO. Magic was an "alpha" (hate that term) for some of his, Steph was for only one, Isiah got two, I think thats it.

steph was a alpha for all his rings dont let the fmvps fool you

How do you not have Larry Bird on the unanimous side?

You nikkas dumb the fact Russell Westbrook won an MVP over:

Lebron
Harden
KD
Steph

All 4 of these guys are approaching top 15-20 all time players and he beat all of them out and averaged 31,10,10.

Also won two scoring titles over the likes of:
Durant
Harden
Curry

Again 2 players in Harden and Durant that will probably go down as top 5 pure scorers of all time

And over a player in Stephen Curry who is the greatest shooter of all time

:mjlol: You borderline retarded if you think Russ ain’t a top 10 PG of all time:russ:

I think Bird was a high IQ player, don't get me wrong about that. But too often I saw games where shyt was sort of happening around him rather than him dictating the terms. I didn't feel he controlled the game with his mind the way that you could see Walton, Kidd, or Bron doing. That's just my opinion though.

Bird's shooting skill, mental drive, height, and "background" lead his bball IQ to get overrated ever so slightly....
