He's not done but he is in the latter part of his prime to arguably past his prime at this point and the debate is whether you want to build a team around his playstyle at this age...

Cousy, Big O, Magic, Rose, Steph Curry, MAYBE Allen Iverson (depending how you classify him). That’s it lol. Cousy gotta get props for being an MVP point guard when hardly anyone else has done it, and one of those guys was 6’9”.

For sure, people discrediting Cousy are just showing a lack of respect for the history of the sport and his place in it. You can't tell the story of basketball without him, he was a heavyweight in his era and thats what I think people always fukk up at, they get so busy trying to project what someone from older eras would look like in today's game versus today's players...

There were HOF players in HIS era and he was one of the standouts, he was a bigger deal in his day than Dame is in his, Kyrie in his, etc. I just really dislike when people shyt on the pre-merger legends like what they were, in their time, doesn't matter. Cats really don't be having "All-Time" lists or discussions, they be having post-merger or "best since (____) year" lists...

Cousy retired for good 51 years ago. There's been PLENTY of players that have passed him by since he left, I'm not definitively stating he's Top 10 anymore, but its asinine for anyone to exclude him from Top 10 consideration. He was that great in his era that 51 years post-retirement, he at least deserves mention in these discussions, and nikkas just be excluding him entirely. Lotta these dudes playing today that we gas because we got to see them with our own eyes, are gonna be long forgotten 51 years from today because they won't have nearly the impact on the sport Cousy had...

This is another thing condensing Russell’s playoff career to just the post-KD years (also ignoring context) and attributing all of OKC’s success to KD while blaming Russ for every shortcoming...

When in fact they were a two-headed monster and there were series where Westbrook was KD’s equal or better...

This is something that Russell haters and KD stans love to do.

That's one of the best stretches that any point guard outside of Steph has had in the 21st century. From 1999-2004, you had Iverson, Kobe, McGrady, Nash, Gary Payton, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen all in the league....yet Jason Kidd was the one getting picked 1st-team All-NBA guard over them almost every year.

And people saying he struggled to score yet in that 2002 Finals run he averaged 20-8-9 with elite defense and in the 2003 Finals run he averaged 20-8-8 with elite defense, and that was during one of the most difficult eras to score in in NBA history. 2003 ECF he averaged 24-10-6 while sweeping the Pistons. Scoring wasn't his forte but he put up points when his team needed them.

What kind of fukking defensive stance is "hands on your knees, standing in empty space, facing the rim, not looking at the player you're guarding"? And with 2 minutes left in a 2-point game.

In addition, certain players, when they bring the ball up court you get the idea they're working with a plan. Especially late in games. Make or miss, you're confident it was at least thought out.

Since Cousy, there are only 15 point guards in the hall of fame, and Tony Parker will make it 16 in 2024 or 2025 when he is eligible.

This is the point guard era where Dame, Curry, Russ, Kyrie and Chris Paul will all get some consideration or make it.

I would say Russ is top ten, but at the lower end of that list. If someone said he wasn’t in their top ten, I wouldn’t fight you. Of his contemporaries, he isn’t better than Curry, Dame and CP3 off rip.

I mean I guess he has led the late surge but this isn't even a .500 win team this season so there isn't much winning to speak of and if we attribute the late surge to him you also have to attribute the losing to him.

The man had a negative net rating and had a sub-100 offensive rating the first three to four months of the season.

I'm glad we agree on the underrating of Russy's contributions and how he played better or to KD's equal in several series. I think it's real unfair how his contributions get undermined and how his career is being condensed to solely low lights and the last few years with no context. This guy is very underappreciated at this point.

Not co-signing his claim, but Baron Davis averaged 14 fga/game and only took 17fgs/game in two seasons of his career. Russ averages 19 fga/game and took 22+ fgs in four different seasons. And they have virtually the same shooting %'s despite Westbrook playing in a more open era. So Russ certainly has more of a green light to chuck than Davis did.
