I am interested in hopping into IT…. Cyber security to be specific since it seems to pay more….

But I am SO LOST on what route to go…..

I know I’m not interested in hardware like that.

There are soooo many ways to get in….. should I get certs? A degree? If I should get certs, which ones should I get? Is community college a good option? Should I learn coding?

I don’t wanna do alllllll this work and studying just to come out and make 50k a year…. Hell I ALREADY make 68 - 72K a year now but I’m trying to get to that next level…..

Help PLEASSSEEEE

:damn::sadbron:

All advice is welcome

**** Also, I have seen the past post on IT located on here and it is YEARS old… is wildly unorganized, and full of people giving vague answers or just trying to sound smarter than the next man…. Not very helpful.*****

bro coding is entirely different thing than help desk/hardware, one is physical and the other is programming.

I can't count the amount of times people ask me to fix their computers and I am like :whoa: I'm not that guy

but I still end up fixing their computers because I did help desk for few years before software

What's your experience/career in now? You're gonna need some years to get above what you're already making
Case management…. And healthcare navigation… I work for Kaiser Permanente…but I don’t wanna get an RN, don’t wanna get a masters in case management or all those other redundant ass Case management certs…. shyt is dumb af and I have currently hit a glass ceiling.

I'll keep my advice simple: Find an area of tech that you are already interested in. If you're not into security, don't try and make a career out of it because you think it pays well or whatever. Find a subject that you are actually interested in. Web, Graphics/Games, Embedded, Languages, System Administration, DevOps, etc. Pick something you have actually invested your own time into in the past.

Any other motivator (money, security, wfh, whatever) won't be strong enough and you'll likely quit.

Most of us do this shyt because we're massive nerds who are genuinely into this stuff. I basically get paid to do shyt I would have done on my own time.

Do you work with EHRs/EMRs at all? You could get in there and still make pretty good money. It looks like they use Epic tho and you can't get their certs unless someone uses a golden key :francis:

Look into Udemy. It costs but if you know what path you want to take then they have the courses. Also check out ChatGPT. If you know how to ask it, it will give you what you need.

Look into the tools major corporations use and do webinars with them to understand what features they provide and how they differ from competitors.
