the warriors have developed players into a lot more with less in the past
no reason he cant give us a solid 20 minutes a game catching lobs, getting a few bunnies/2nd chance points, bullying smaller/weaker opponents in the post, and protecting the rim, all while providing good spacing.

There's no way you can possibly believe he's improved beyond what folks perceive him to be off four minutes of play in the SL.
I get that you want to see the good in him, but let's be real here. Besides, you even said yourself you're not looking for him to be a star, but "Javale McGee with a jump shot", so that's not exactly really improving to where the initial expectations were set. I should damn hope he improves to be Javale McGee with a jump shot.
