And I’d be lying if I said the media/social circle didn’t influence my dating/smashing partners back then. All my girlfriends were light skinned/mixed race but I didn’t once shyt on dark skinned black women. Anyone who knew me back then can attest to that.

However, I would get the “if you love and defend dark skinned women so much, why have you never dated one?” I had to be real with myself, I had been subconsciously programmed to see lighter skinned women as more attractive. I had to deprogram myself from that way of thinking.

I always found all women attractive, but my dating preferences said otherwise. My current girlfriend is Sanaa Lathan‘s skin tone which is relatively darker than my previous ex’s but I’m with her not because of her skin tone so.
