We keep trying to tell these cats every day. But they don't want to hear it. :ohlawd:

These labels have been signing artists on the low and letting them build "indie" for years... astroturfing... and all these dudes fall for it. And can't believe it. Then it becomes "It's all about the music."

Oh Rihanna "I love the way you lie" type characters. :bryan:

The shyt is weak and shows how much labels have to do just to get artists on. TDE got all their music expenses paid for giving them the leg up on everybody while other cats are fighting tooth and nail to get heard, and then TDE fans don't get why folks clown shyt like this.

But hey, who are we to let them know? :manny:

Of course they are going to have the resources. Top Dawg Ent. is a production company as well not just a record label.

Top's track record goes way back since he was investing in movies like you got served with Chris Stokes.

He's always had the connections.

I've been down with TDE since Rock dropped "Blood nikkaz", they were on a major then aswell, I could care less.

All of the TDE projects up to good kid, maad city were released independently.

I'm the marketing manager/A&R at EMPIRE Distribution and we signed TDE to digital distribution in the summer of 2010 and digitally released Overly Dedicated, Setbacks, Long Term Mentality and Section.80. Jay Rock set up the deal at the time as I had dealt with him in the past for DubCNN.

It was between the release of O.D. and Section.80 that the transition to Dr. Dre happened, but they were still very much independent and there was no Aftermath/Interscope involvement in the release of Section.80. I pitched those released to iTunes, Amazon etc personally.

After Section.80, "control system" and "Habits & Contradictions" were released without EMPIRE's involvement, so I don't know too much about those, but they were independent releases as well.

But yes, it is very much possible for artists to have a major deal but to keep it under wraps in order to create the illusion of organic growth. However, that wasn't really the case for TDE - sure the Dre cosign helped everybody jump on their nuts - but the foundation was already laid with their independent work.

Hey industry lady I actually have a question :ohhh:. How is Robb Bank$ doing :ld: ? I heard he signed up with ya for a distribution deal.

Is he still releasing his shyt with ya? Or did he move on to a major on the downlow as well :lolbron:

I ain't doubting or disrespecting TDE's connects. They go way back in Cali and they are respected as an organization.

I'm just speaking to those who appreciate indie artists on the rise yet don't see that no indie artist ever reaches the top these days without a major label being involved. Period.

so section.80 isnt as good now because it wasnt actually indie? :stopitslime:

this shyts stupid, who cares if they were signed or not? if you like the music, you like the music regardless of them being indie or "industry plants", which i guess if you arent indie your an industry plant now according to the internet

this shyt has nothing to do with the quality of the music

Jimmy Iovine prolly made the call to do it :ohhh:

On sum, Game to G-unit type ish :ohhh:

Eminem's demo tape was found on the floor of Jimmy Iovine's mail room and forwarded to Dr. Dre, they already knew what they were looking for when they saw him at the Rap Olympics

Simple question. How do you discover said new music?

And before you answer that, think... how many artists are getting that same chance of exposure before being exposed to the world? And what made you find about them?

Depending on how you answer that will determine if you understand why folks in this thread are criticizing Interscope for pushing this on TDE (which they did decide to do).

Mixtapes, videos, viral videos, word of mouth, internet, dj mixes. That's how I find music

I seriously don't undersatnd why some of y'all are so upset about this "discovery" that artists are secretly signed before they blow up. If the music is good, are u really gonna stop listening to K.Dot and black hippie now :comeon:

Some of y'all nyggaz are actin like y'all have been datin a fine azz bytch for a year, then u find out a year later that the chick had breast implants. Are u really gonna get tha upset and bytch and complain and break up with her. :beli:

Cmon y'all, seriously. I don't see the issue :manny:
