H&C and S80 weren't released on a major though.

These dudes have been grinding for longer than 2011. H&C and s80 weren't about underground shyt at all if you actually listened to them. Q even talks about the deal on H&C.

Half the nikkas in this thread don't even listen to them and be on quiet mode when they shining but in their downtime they pop they lil hatin ass heads out. They still gonna be on top. Selling gold and possibly platinum records. So stay :umad: while TDE keep making these hits & :eat:

I try to tell u cats all the time that labels new thing is to sign these dudes under the table & push them "organically" to make people feel like they're one of them and aren't part of the "machine" then wait until their buzz is right & announce that they just got signed... easy marketing...

Drake changed the game forever... & cats keep falling for it... :mjpls:

We keep trying to tell these cats every day. But they don't want to hear it. :ohlawd:

These labels have been signing artists on the low and letting them build "indie" for years... astroturfing... and all these dudes fall for it. And can't believe it. Then it becomes "It's all about the music."

Oh Rihanna "I love the way you lie" type characters. :bryan:

The shyt is weak and shows how much labels have to do just to get artists on. TDE got all their music expenses paid for giving them the leg up on everybody while other cats are fighting tooth and nail to get heard, and then TDE fans don't get why folks clown shyt like this.

But hey, who are we to let them know? :manny:

As much as we joke about Industry Plant this and that on here, I really dont think the "Indie Hip-Hop scene" is as Indie as it prides itself on being...

Theres too much money at stake, and labels wont lay public claim to artists that theyre breeding/watching until it becomes profitable.

In a way, we do get to choose by downloading the mixtapes, tweeting, sharing, debating etc etc and those numbers mean a lot. I still cant help but feel like a lot of what we call "buzz" is really subtle-but-aggressive viral marketing. We love "organic" or "green" shyt these days and that goes for every industry. People slap on that shyt on anything to make it marketable, why would an ADHD-type game like Rap be any different?

Kush+OJ, So Far Gone, Section80 all had production quality that you dont generally attain without lots of resources

I aint mad. TDE is great in my books, and Id much rather be an aspiring MC in this era than the others...

do people really care about who's indie or not? serious question? the label is the last thing on my mind when i'm listening to an artist and/or discovering new music.

Simple question. How do you discover said new music?

And before you answer that, think... how many artists are getting that same chance of exposure before being exposed to the world? And what made you find about them?

Depending on how you answer that will determine if you understand why folks in this thread are criticizing Interscope for pushing this on TDE (which they did decide to do).

Yes, people love "organic, green, homegrown" shyt. You gots institutions like BANKS endorsing how GREEN they are :pachaha:

Rappers have generally become more relatable to the average consumer: non-threatening, trendy, accessible on social media

Its an inspiring success story. They did it all by themselves with no label in the shadows.....just talent and hard work....and a lot of luck....and a label in the shadows :heh:

FYI, all of that costs money. To put mixtapes on Datpiff/Livemixtapes, etc, all of that costs money. And blogs ain't promoting you just because.

And Bankrolled by Republicans? No.

Now who and went BOUGHT their albums? As well as the label? Now that's a different story. :youngsabo:

I thought they were with interscope before Section 80 dropped when I used to see vids of Kendrick and Dre... :manny:

good for them, TDE deserves the push of a major label and to have their shyt put on to all the mainstream outlets. I'm growing tired of everything that comes out mainstream rapwise coming from YMCMB, MMG, and Good music...
