Ehh thinking of joining a gym but I really don’t wanna be around racist cacs and police all day in compromised position. Especially in OC the which is racist cac and police central:francis:

Might just do boxing instead when I live near a gym

yall better stop being scared of these cacs :stopitslime:. naw but shiiit do what's comfy fam, bjj aint for everybody, it aint like boxing where you can get good fast just by learning alittle foot work, head movement and a good 1-2-3. took me almost a year to get to the point where i do in most other white belts

You need to learn grappling though. Don't let them get all the good training. Boxing is good, but most fight go to the ground

Went for the first time today. My old co-worker is a purple belt and me him and this funny ass hood nikka are the only black people. On the way in me and the other black guy chopping it up. Son his a hilarious hood nikka " Yo son with this shyt nikkas can not fukk with you, I been doing this for 3 years. I was high watching UFC and said let me try this shyt out".

Some aspects of it are kind of gay but it's fun and strategic. I probably should've watched a video on what to do before, I was a fish out of water, I felt helpless like a damn toddler.

I might keep at this

When I did Muay Thai, the Boxers that came in obviously had better hands, head movement, but were susceptible to the leg kicks, teeps, clinch, elbows.

When I transitioned to do boxing, my whole game was wrecked, no kicks/teeps to maintain the distance and my hand combos limited since they were chained to 1-1-Left inside kick-right roundhouse. It took me another 6 months or so to get my footwork together.

Sorry for responding to your thread so late gut that is the reason Saenchai is so good. He trains with boxers and incorporates head movements and footwork into his style.

Muay Thai and Judo/wrestling will make you a monster on the streets, literally no one can get a clinch on you and you can drop them at will with a knee, elbow, throw...

Got my blue belt in december:wow:. But it really is overcoming a mighty hill jus to see the mountains cus now the purples and higher show no mercy

Supplementing my training with studying concepts on youtube was a game changer for real:mjlol:. You can really learn anything on that shyt.

But since January ive been supplementing with instructionals from BJJ fanatics.com and the results have been:whew:.

Gonna join a bjj gym before year ends. Already a somewhat semi decent boxer for someone who does it on and off. There's a pure wrestling gym near me but that shyt is literally 99% white, would feel to uncomfortable there.

Going to be relocating to a new location soon. Found out that there's a BJJ gym that's ran by a older black dude. My question is this, I don't really participate in any kind of sports or martial arts (really never have for the most part). Thinking about maybe trying out this BJJ stuff for overall wellness, skills, and conditioning, but I also like to lift weights.

Is doing both counterintuitive (I'm mainly into powerlifting right now)? How often would one have to go to a BJJ gym weekly in order to see good progress?

One of the if not the best bjj players right now is Gorgon Ryan I’m pretty sure he powerlifting. I personally feel calisthenics, cardio and some moderate lifting can help. Powerlifting I feel doesn’t translate to sports like Bjj and boxing because you’ll be too stiff
