I've come to realize Japanese games should be written by western writers

Does a JRPG exists that has a story that's almost grounded in reality and not incredibly weird?

This anti-Japanese rhetoric is fukking corny as hell. Can't wait until trendy Western games die out. No one will remember Mass Effect, Fallout, or any of those games that put you to sleep.

The only western game writer I fukks with is Ann Henning. Every other western writer can kick rocks.:camby:

The one and only thing western developers do better than the Japanese is online and that is it.

The only RPGs I've come across with decent to good stories have been - (a) Suikoden, (b) Trails of Cold Steel and (c) The Witcher. That's it. I'm not saying there aren't others but holding western Rpgs to a higher standard is laughable.

They really just need to work on dialogue everything else is fine. I can't even take FFX seriously due to how bad it is (Im not just talking about the laugh scene) FFXV is a step in the right direction though in terms of dialogue characters talk pretty naturally there.

FFX was one of the few that made sense. 7, 10, and 9.

Those are open world games where the story is not the focus nor the selling point.

The selling point of JRPGs is often the story and it's always terrible.

Find me a single Japanese game with a story with movie like quality like the last of us or uncharted 2

Breh, I love Naughty Dog but there is nothing special about the story or dialogue in Uncharted. They are the best of a bad bunch in terms of Western developers with the exception of cd projekt. ND excel at presentation and polish, that's what makes their games special.

I really don't get weird love for Western writing... if anything its jumped WAY backwards over the years. You go from Planesecape to Dragon Age, Fallout 2 to Fallout 3/4, Deus Ex OG to All Augs Matter. Its just weird to say that its at some great point right now when not only is it wrong, but its trending towards getting worse.

Outside of Bioware, it seems like a massive struggle to throw together decent characters too.

the writers for Japanese games are generally good at character development and world building, but they are trash as making a coherent, interesting and compelling plot. They have the attention span of a prepubescent teenager with too much imagination and it shows. Imagine a JRPg having a plot like the last of us. It will never happen if the Japanese are writers. I don't even need to get into the metal gear games. Also they can't write English dialogue, it always comes off as corny. Let's get naughty dog writers for the next final fantasy game.

Like I said, the basic concepts, world, and characters are cool. But the actual plot and execution is nonsensical. They were fine when we were kids but they don't stand the test of time because Japanese writing is trash

How bout they make good stories in our video games or we nuke those bytches again u fakkit wee a boo

:whoa:
Chill breh and go play some more FF13

i just started playinhg through ff13. its refreshing how much more soul JRPG's have over empty games like fallout. and jrpgs have their own problems, but the way the storylines are delivered is so much better
