So speaking "improper" English equates to being "cool"?

I'm assuming the OP meant the use of everyday slang. Not being able to talk properly when needed should never be cool. If he really did mean speaking improperly all the time, then nah I can't agree with that. :russ:

There's a plenty of cool black stars like Brandon Phillips, Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford, Adam Jones, Justin Upton, etc. Most athletes try to speak as proper as they can during interviews and press conferences anyway. We only see the hood in football and basketball players when they're hanging out.

Breh, Adam Jones gonna drop at LEAST 6 f bombs every post game interview :mjlol:

There is nothing improper about AAVE, "proper English" is literally just rich white people's dialect.
And while I can understand why it's often beneficial to talk like the ruling class, it's not the something I associate with being cool.

The fact you used this term, tells a lot about you.

and No, "proper" english is not a "rich white peoples" dialect... you can speak proper english with an accent.
