Listened to this through a couple of times and it's pretty good. So the concept is he's rapping from the perspective of the friend or he's playing the role of the actual friend? The first listen I was like :wtf: but then I read it was a concept album and kept listening.

Favorite tracks are the title track, Ville Mentality and Change.

It's both. For instance, both in "Changes" and "4 Your Eyez Only" he was both the narrator and himself. And in "Ville Mentality" he's playing the role of the actual friend with the daughter in between verses voicing her anger about her daddy no longer there.

This post reeks of pretentiousness
:mjlol:

There have been heavier records than this album pertaining to the climate of America that have released just last month that I would say are better than this.

Common's Black America Again
Tribe's album

They are both speaking real shyt right? And I believe Tribe's album did well in terms of sales, so the notion that fans are only looking for 'easy popcorn turn up' shyt is false.

For Cole to be in this lane of deep/conscious hiphop and have all these die hard fans... it's interesting how his music isn't superior to other releases in the same lane.

Now the argument for this album's "greatness" will be because it's a conceptual record. In terms of conceptual records that dropped this year, I have it behind Coloring Book and Mick Jenkins The Healing Component.

Am I lying?
This.

I think this was light compared to his other shyt, and his vocals while attempting to sing was dry as fukk., that being said i gave this a 6/10

Its kinda of boring but it has some good ideas

For fathers she's mine 1 and 2 totally encapsulates the feelings you get raising and nurturing a wife and daughter.

It's kinda weird but there's a lot of parallels in the feels you get for your woman, and your little girl. But the feelings are different too.

Man do those 2 tracks speak to me. Cole got me feeling like he made this album about me.

People taking that facebook post about the "concept" too seriously.

The album is basically him giving his own story and comparing/contrasting that story with other nikkas from a similar background. That's it.

He's writing their(and his) story down for "our eyes only" cause we are the only ones that can understand.
