Honestly, I don't even see half the videos these artists release much less like a song any less based on the visual. Half the time I'm like :ohhh: shyt I didn't even know they made a video for this shyt. W that said I liked the video :manny: but it's not like I'm gonna watch it multiple times in a row or some shyt.

What type of win? I'm just saying that it's a good video. Making a video without a lot of ass and a lot of fast cars for the dreamers is not a win, it's whatever to me. I won't ever OPPOSE it though.

Cole is exercising his right to be an artist first.
The fukked up thing here is that you don't like Cole, but still want his video to be a standard commercial video :mindblown:

Isn't the video exactly what the song is about?
A broad fukking up a dudes mind so bad that he takes drastic measures?
Knowing about Dreams is not necessary to understand the video, but it's a cool bonus for the fans.

J. Cole went against the suits at his labels, you nikkas in here are actually thinking about the suits first and artists second, fukking disgusting.
Crying like bytches over not getting to see Miguel and shyt, the fukk they do that at.

Or maybe, people legitimately think the video sucks for the song and ruins the vibe (like me). I don't give people bonus points for being original if it's not executed well. But bigger than that, the people you're mad at are bigger fans of this guy than you are and are looking at him like "why are you taking this awkward step." They want to see him win. This is like when Drake dropped that wack best I ever had video and had everybody like :wtf:.

Tell me why it sucks? And show me a video he did that's better. Cause him actually making a video that seems to took some thought and got people actually discussing it coincidentally has a lot of people (on forums and no where else of course) hating on it. For "killing the vibe", Cole has never been that type of artist except for his wack ass single from the last album and even in that video he's just chilling in the park and then at some type of college party. So I don't know what type of fans you are, that were expecting a pop dat or ymcmb video.
And lol @ bigger fans than me calling him wack, not knowing what the song was referencing to before others mentioned it etc interesting.

I guess I gotta start out by saying I'm not even a Cole fan. Just can't get with him but the first time I heard this song randomly while I was browsing the internet I was like :wow:.

Turns out a dude I know sent me the song a while back and I never gave it a listen. I learned from this thread why I didn't get much of the video. I don't listen to him so it was kind of a wtf moment.

The thing that really sold the video for me though is the friend. All those looks during the video like "Man we really doin this shyt, huh?", "Well whatever, you my mans". All makes sense at the end.

I actually liked the video but it could've been better if it went deeper showing how much he was obsessed with her or if Miguel was doing her wrong. The video didn't convey his motivation clearly enough.

Also is 1700 a month considered cheap rent out there in nyc?

I agree with this. Maybe have him looking through his phone with her picture in it while he's getting the lap dance.

That depends on which neighborhood you're in. But it's certainly nowhere near high end.

All due respect, and I've never said this to you before because you tend to be on point, but this post is just completely nonsensical. You're so convinced of your opinion you fail to understand that all you're doing is spewing out emotions and your feelings and throwing out statements you cannot verify that do nothing to prove your point and expose that you don't understand what I am saying. Let's look at everything you asked me.

Tell me why it sucks? And show me a video he did that's better. Cause him actually making a video that seems to took some thought and got people actually discussing it coincidentally has a lot of people (on forums and no where else of course) hating on it.

I have explained all throughout this thread what I find to be ineffective about that video. If you didn't bothered to read those posts then I have no idea why you are asking me these questions in a defensive manner. Furthermore, something being mediocre is not necessarily a relative evaluation. I'm not grading music videos on a curve. Other videos may suck too, but that doesn't mean another video is good. Lastly, I never said this was the worst video on earth and I don't what reality you're living in, but the video came out two days ago and it received mixed reviews. This video did not take a significant amount of thought, do not confuse a lack of commonality for concentrated thought and originality.

This very same concept could've been used and if he had expressed the inner turmoil more in the video, and went more in-depth with the storyline and did not use dreary colors, a random nod to a confederate flag, etc., it would've been a better video. The video has received mixed reviews on twitter, and that's as close of a barometer to the real world as you're going to get unless you go do a field study.

For "killing the vibe", Cole has never been that type of artist except for his wack ass single from the last album and even in that video he's just chilling in the park and then at some type of college party.

You misunderstand what I mean by "vibe." You think I mean fukking up the vibe of the party. I am talking about the feeling the song projects. The video, it's colors,, etc., negate the natural emotion that the record brings about. For example, Kanye's Flashing Lights video is a slower track and the video matches it. This is more upbeat than that, but the video has the more slowed down feel.

So I don't know what type of fans you are, that were expecting a pop dat or ymcmb video.

On what basis, are you claiming that people don't know what is being referenced. You're running around throwing shyt at the wall instead of responding to anything I said. No one said a YMCB video, but you. Just stop it fam. You like it, others don't, that's cool. But don't try to project this deeper perspective.

First I only saw good reviews, I only read good professional reviews of a random google the first review was Music Video Review: 'Power Trip' powers new J Cole single's twisted undertones - The Michigan Daily.

I never said the video was more than good, I just have a good feeling that a lot of people are hating on it cause of the fact that it isn't standard. From what I've observed through the years is that in hiphop, trying something different often means that a lot of people will overrate it and a lot of people underrate/hate on it. That is why I'm assuming that a lot of people, that I would guess never hated on any French Montana or YMCMB video, are just hating on it cause he has the nerve to differentiate himself. There was actually a dude complaining about not seeing Miguel enough.

As far as what you meant with vibe, I probably misunderstood it.
I'm not acting as if people need to like it, I'm saying as a J. Cole fan this is something I would expect from him not some generic ass Work Out video (which btw no one complained about on hamster if I recall rightr) and it seems to be a consensus across the board for J. Cole fans.
