I put FHD and Born Sinner above it

And Sideline Story and For your Eyes only beneath it

I really like it though, easy listen. It just the right length. Don't really see any hit songs on it but there aren't any songs I feel like I have to skip so far... Most importantly, he spitting real shyt. Nothing seems forced

I don't think J. Cole is seeking "hit records" any more. He is on full album concept driven. It is a clear difference from someone like Cardi B's album which I blatantly single-driven. Which begs the question over what you prefer.. an album full if singles or a full album that's not single-driven?

  1. 2014 FHD
  2. Born Sinner
  3. KOD
  4. 4YEO
  5. Sideline Story

Obviously not his best, but it's better than the last and I definitely fukk with the vibe. I usually fukk with the coli consensus on music but y'all wayyy off base with this one :hubie:

Agree with breh who said this was him holding a up mirror up to the current state of hip hop.

BUT to effectively do that he should’ve used other people beats

i don't disagree, but then it wouldn't be an album :patrice:

i think first half of the album does an effective job with his own beats. second half besides 1985 is basically the same style production he has been using for a couple years.

Yeah, I agree .. As a Cole fan since The Warm Up. I remember that rough patch when he was clearly searching for a hit before Sideline Story dropped "Who Dat" comes to mind..

Now he's at the point where he's had enough success and his fan base is big enough that he doesn't have to chase a hit and make cliche radio songs... He can do him and not worry about what everybody is doing
