I think nikkas got so use to complaining about mumble rappers lately that they're overstating how good this album is.

Don't get me wrong :whoa: the album IS good and I enjoyed it but he definitely has better previous work than this.

I can appreciate the concept but it's not well executed

J Cole not a good enough writer to really take his ideas to the next level lyrically

I'll probably never listen to this album again. it's not bad, it's just dull and uneventful

This is pretty much how I feel in a nutshell, I think Cole is the best pure RAPPER out of the big 3–but he not a great writer or that great at making MUSIC.

This album exposed that.

He needs to start working with other people, because this whole “ima lock myself in a studio alone and make an album in a couple weeks” shyt is bringing the quality of his catalog down.

You can tell this was made in 2 weeks, it sounds like a rushed concept album that’s not as deep as people are making it out to be.

He dedicated an entire diss record to LIL PUMP (a rapper that won’t be around in 3 years) and nikkas is acting like this is some timeless classic when it’s not even in his top 3 best projects.

He missed on this shyt, point blank period.

The stans and the “certain intelligence” nikkas can force themselves to listen to this shyt 100x and convince themselves this is some classic but in 3 months no one will be listening to this.

This is better than 4YEO but what does that mean? Cuz that shyt was off base too.

He missed twice in a row since Forest Hills Drive.

It’s looking spooky for J.Cole right now, the nikka that was supposed to pick up where Hov left off.

I believe this Kanye's impact. Rappers used to rap first and be artists second.

When Kanye dropped he was an artist first - outlining and executing a sonic and conceptual creative vision, and his raps were largely second to that.

The new gen is obviously inspired by the way Kanye delivers his albums, as you alluded to you just get less rapping on a beat good songs like you did with Jay. Everyone wants to be an artist, not everyone has it in them. I do disagree, I think Kendrick is a really strong artist and with DAMN he mixed it up way more than TPAB, but GKMD was better balanced agreed.
That might be the case.

But honestly I think it's simple as this.

Cole and Kendrick ain't as good or as smart as people hype.

When they do albums like this it shows how they really lack the wit, intellect, or depth etc that people like to hype they have

Add the fact these albums r not as layered or complex as there fans say they r. Makes the albums look funny in the light.

Because people used this supposed "depth"/"complexity" they have to excuse there lack of replay value and quality.

This album really seemss kinda shallow/surface level in terms of the depth that the fans think it has

hard 8.2

Concept album / ode to ATCQ / Jr Mafia / Queensfam

Anti- Mumble Migos / trap / Stripper / mumble rap scene

Very anti drug, very anti molly swag / xan rappers

So pretty much Cole getting upset these dudes in his pockets with some :trash:

its not re-inventing the wheel, but its enough substance in a very shallow ass hip hop scene

with that said DRAKE #STANSET FINNA Eat in June

Ye gon be :camby: with that 7 track nonsense

Cudder is gonna save him on his joint LP :yeshrug:

This is not a summer throw in your car joint

this is a light one for the april20 then put this back in the Spotify shuffle

still gon go platinum with no features

Lyrically the album is dope, there’s a few dope songs (KOD ,photograph, brackets,1985) but the production and hooks on this make the replay value minimal. He should let Kendrick or dr Dre executive produce his album. I feel like he has been studying Kendrick with this new flow he’s been spitting, which is dope but musically he’s not on the same level as kdot

So who is as good as people hype? In your opinion.

I'm talking about an artist with mainstream appeal
