After my first play I have to say that the big difference between Cole and Kendrick is really the production. Obviously there’s more differences than similarities. But from a quality standpoint, I can listen to a Kendrick album without listening to the lyrics. That’s how dope the beats and overall production is, the creative structure of his songs, the alignment between voice and arrangement, mixing and all of that.

Coles production could really have been the production of an amateur at times, not wack at all but it’s just nothing special on too many songs. He’ll hit you with a few dope songs production wise but not consistently as should be the case for someone who obviously knows good music, knows how to make good music and has all the resources he wants at his disposal.

As far as how good the album is, still need some more time. First play was solid and production a lot more consistent than e.g. the last album.

Album is good. 4YEO too. Cole is on a Kanye type run having every album sound different. The beats may need upgrading but he a player in two games producing and rapping.

Also me and Cole around the same age so I feel what he saying as a black man like the other guy said up there.

Out of all 3 Cole got the best career he does what he wants and makes different shyt and don’t follow a tired formula . You already know what you expecting from a drake album you’ll never know with Cole until you listen which is how it should be.

I had a chance to listen to some of the album. From what I heard it sounds better than 4YEO. 1985 is arguably the best song on the album. I have a big problem with Cole singing too much. I'll have to give it a few through spins before I can form an opinion about it

The Coli.com only place I've heard negative about this album.

Dope project much better than his last with the first couple listens. We will see how it grows over time.

Only early criticism I have is the length. You gonna have a short album, every track needs to bang from start to finish. Cole so concerned with dropping a concept album and or following illmatic that he sells himself short. I'm sure he has a bunch of other dope tracks that might not fit the theme of the album exactly, but would fill it out a little better.
