Does this album have better production than those albums in your opinion?

Since music is subjective, it's better to provide context and reference as to why something isn't good from your perspective.

That's what I'm doing. I only mentioned relatively recent releases to compare. You understand now?

Basically you prefer prediction that relies mostly with a keyboard and a drum machine and sometimes a sampler over most complex live musical instrumentation. I get it.... I guess.

In my opinion, the production on KOD is superb. It's perfectly mixed, it's sound crisp and clear, there's multiple musical layers to include the minimalist production on the titled track, the music isn't overbearing or overshadow the vocal performance, rather it compliment and at times enhances Cole's lyrical performance, and collectively it's cohesive and not all over the place.

But that's my opinion. But too many people want to judge on beats without thoroughly LISTEN to how the music is sounding. It' more like they're conditioned to either the current wave or stuck on a more traditional hip hop sound of samples beats and kick drums. To each is own, but I am more opened to music that tries to expand and give more. Quincy Jones in a recent interview expounded on the issue he had on hip hop production stuck on a 4-count loop and not more musically adventurous and I do agree and appreciate artist that gives us more on the production side.

J Cole needs make a colab album with Lil Reese to please the "but buh it 4YEO and KOD album is so boring" crowd.

Cole rapping over 13 tracks of uptempo trap beats by Zaytoven and metro boomin... with a feature from Future.

J Cole comes through on 4YEO with a 90s Hip Hop organic sound, and then Jay Z's 444 comes with a conventional Hip Hop sound, that has a more sample and loop based sound while somewhat modernized. That is a departure from Jay Z's prior album Magna Carta.
90s hiphop organic sound :what: You just making shyt up.

The best beats on there are the trap beats

Out of WHO?

Kendrick/Cole/Drake

Let’s be real they make more noise than anyone when they drop or even speak.

Difference is Kendrick look like he working like a slave and Drake gotta ride trends and follow formulas. Cole can drop collect a check sell out tours and drop seemingly whatever he feels like (usually totally opposite of what’s popular) and have people gravitate towards him time and time again.

Huh? The beats on 4YEO are primarily non trap beats.

Why are you literally the only one in the thread having a hard time comprehending my post?!

:mindblown:
So none trap = 90s organic

Im objecting to you describing those beats with that bullshyt term and the best beats on the album are trap beats

Post examples of these 4YEO songs that inspired 4:44, what does 90s Hiphop organic sound even mean?
Do you mean Pac and them, Dre and them, early Cube or late Cube, Master P, Outkast, Jay-z, Timbo/Pharrell, ATCQ or what do you mean?

Cole doest make nearly the amount of money that those 2 make and those two have bigger and more diverse fanbases to satisfy overtime they drop something.

Migos, Future and Big Sean are on Cole's level as well.

This thread fully set me up to think the album was terrible but after listening to it in the gym, I give this 4/5. This is considerably better than 4YEO and the production is a lot more varied. The hooks aren’t terrible at all and he managed to avoid his streak of having a cheesy song on the album.

This is much better from Cole and on first listen, I think I like this more than FHD.

Yeah Cole does his own beats and raps his own verses neither Kendrick or Drake does both..and if they did they don’t do it for albums like Cole.Where is he really splitting his money except his team of unknowns that prolly would make nothing if it wasn’t for him..Cole seemingly is a DIYer so that’s more money for him.

Also not sure if you go to shows or not but none of the people you named do the same size venues as Cole.

Future was an opener at at Festival Cole was the headliner (MIA)

Big Sean was the opener at J Cole show

Kendrick Cole and drake do the same venues so how are they not at the same popularity level? free streaming don’t determine that.

Im talking convetional east coast Hip Hop 1990 to 1995 ish maybe 1990 to 1994 more specifically.
Off top Just look at the singles J Col's " De Ja Vu" and Jay Z Moonlight. The muffle and/or manipulated female vocal sampling.

THIS IS A fukkING HUGE DEPARTURE FROM JAY Z MAGNA CARTA.

Come on man.
