I had somebody tell me the album was terrible. After asking them about certain songs they said they did not hear them since they skipped until the end. You got people like that talking about the album lol

Right “I skimmed through it, it’s trash.”

From what I’ve heard so far it does have a tinge of an Ummah feel. That stood out nearly instantly ...

Trying to figure out if you’re being complimentary or not tho :patrice:

It''s more an observation then anything I like those style of beats and I like the verses

But same time I feel the Chrous are lazy

I like this more then his last two with 1985 being the stand out

But false prophets and everybody dies > K.O.D

It's certainly an important record...but that doesn't mean it is a great record. I listened again and definitely think it has some very high highs (no pun intended lol). Kevin's Heart and Once An Addict are the type of tracks I've waited years for Cole to make. It's also an album that suffers from Cole's trademark condescending tone and arrogance. And "social critiques" that are just too on the nose for me (Photograph especially). Add in some weak hooks/singing and I give this a 7/10. Probably his best album.

This is definitely his worst project. It's still "good" compared to today's atmosphere in the mainstream, but this has a total mixtape vibe to it, which maybe why it was a surprise drop. People argue that all projects with original beats are to be considered "Albums", but this is a prime example where it's clear this project was worked on less than his real albums. EDIT: and there's nothing wrong with that, becuz free Cole music.

Lyrics: 8/10 Lots of great storytelling and imagery, reminiscent of Nas with less street vibe.

Hooks: 6/10 Hooks are hit or miss, there's no melody in alot of them, which has been a staple of dope Cole hooks his whole career

Beats: 5/10 Very fundamental, perhaps on purpose to make you vibe on the vocals more, but alot sound like under produced skeletons. I like the overall mood of them, but just not enough going on to actually add to the value of the song.

Overall 7/10, good for music standards, not good for Cole standards. Fav track Window Pain.

word i can respect that
