BTW

A lot of people are saying Cole shouldn't have made a song, that he shouldn't have been that upset, that he should've just taken the feedback and KIM. But that's pretty easy to say when you aren't in that situation. When a rapper you grew up idolizing actually gives you props at one point the way that Nas had given Cole props in a couple interviews, but then tells your mentor that your joint is weak? Especially when Cole had seen the joint as a triumph? That's some devastating stuff :sadbron:

Imagine anyone that you look up to as one of the best to ever do what you do - in whatever craft it is that you dedicate your livelihood to - telling you that what you thought was your latest triumph is weak.

I don't blame Cole for feeling hurt by it, and I don't blame him for using his music to express it either. I hear the phone call argument, but his music is where these artists can express themselves.

What I'm sayin is that he didnt have to say anything..he was basically giving Cole his own opinion on the song and threw in what Nas felt about it to validate it...feel me?..the Nas info was completely voluntary..

i understand what you sayin..

but, here's the catch.. NO I.D. played the track for Nas, for his feedback.. how is he wrong for telling homie Nas didn't like it..? it's just criticism..

if he can't take criticism(especially from one of his so-called favorites)why be in the game..?

you know how much I got criticized by cats I looked up to before I made it in the game..? you know.. It's part of the game, homie.. take it, tighten up and KIM..

For the record, I don't know if Cole has called NaS or not about it but the fact is NaS and Jay are very cool so if he really had that much of an issue or it hurt him that bad, I'm sure he could of gotten NaS number and talked it out instead of doing a song called "Let NaS Down".

It made a great song and he's a rapper.
Rappers make songs about their moms dying, about their friends being locked up and shyt. Why not just say a prayer or visit the prison?

Cole basically says "I didn't want to make this song, Jay pressured me. :mjpls:".

No he's saying that he wanted to make it, but questioning if it's worth losing respect as a lyricist over having smash hits and shyt.

It's a deeper discussion, not some type 1 liner explanation.

I can't say anything to match the articulate truth bomb that Ziggiy blessed us all with, so I'll just give some brief thoughts on this shyt. When I first heard the title I laughed and started thinking "damn, Cole on that stan rap shyt..." Heard the song last night and I gotta say...shyt is real dope. Arguably one of Cole's best song.

I'd love to hear Nas' view on this song. Especially the You Owe Me line, which is rings to most Nas fans. Nas has hit with a few radio tracks, but more than a few were pretty wack (more wack than Work Out...). Summer On Smash comes to mind most recently.

Gotta give Cole dap for this shyt. I love this rap shyt, and anyone who loves hip hop loves Nas. For all his flaws and failings, he's still the GOAT to me. This track really puts it in perspective for me, without being stan-ish like Big Brother.

(also Cole learned his lesson: Power Trip is a hit without being too stupid lyrically)

But, y'all complain when nikka always rap about hoes and racks too

:wtb:

Now you just making up shyt...what racks and hoes got to do with the song being :ld:

It ain't the subject matter that should be getting fault or praise, it's the execution, the fact that it's another "tribute" record just adds to the whole :ld:ness

He's whining about a third party telling him that nas didn't like a song of his that he didn't even like...all while trying to pass the buck to jay for "making" him make a wack record. There's a million ways to make a bytch dance without referencing Paula Abdul.

Then the title is on some "i think i can beat mike tyson" type shyt..except it's not comedic in nature (not on purpose anyway). Just....no.

And you nikkas kill me acting as if something is going over peoples heads here Like nas' name was just some kinda misdirect. If it wasn't really about nas and his critique then there was no reason to put his name in the title or the hook.

He could have taken the same beat, and the same overall premise and made a much better song. He even coulda have thrown that tidbit about nas in there to drive his point home rather than using it as a "vehicle".

:mjpls:

ubr was cooked crack

:lupe:

We talking about the same song my nikka? The one that Rakim himself didn't even like? The same song that's not even a stand out record on an album that nas stans don't even like talking about?

For the record, You know my style (racks and hoes) > that other shyt.

just listened.....sh*t is dope to me.

The title isn't really what the song is about. It is in part, but it's about a bigger picture.
